Unless they introduced that game thing very recently couldn't you just use one of those free copies of HL2:DM or something? I had an account with nothing on it but that once and chatted fine. But that was probably over a year now, and I haven't been on it since I realised "Oh wait you can use a Steam account on more than one computer."

I think I might be able to use a free game, if you know one.
