Airsoft is once again under attack in California with the proposal of a new California Bill SB798 that will require all airsoft guns to be colored entirely in a bright color. Obviously, if this law is passed, it will be detrimental for airsoft Milsim and Reenactment enthusiasts in California where we are probably the largest and one of the most active Milsim communities in the country. Additionally and more importantly, we know that, in Airsoft Extreme's more than ten years of airsoft retailing experience, making airsoft guns more toy-like in appearance may have the opposite effect in safety awareness among young users, their parents, or new users unfamiliar with airsoft or general gun safety. Airsoft Extreme has ALWAYS advocated safety awareness via our written notices as well as our new buyer safety orientation at our stores by our staff. The national airsoft industry is unanimously against CA Bill SB798 and are contacting the California state government to voice their opposition to this bill in support of California airsoft enthusiasts. Attached are official responses to the legislation by some of the largest and most respected airsoft distributors in the industry. However, this is not enough. YOU, the airsoft player, need to make YOUR voice heard in this argument. At the bottom of this announcement is the contact information for the California State Senator, Kevin de Leon, who drafted this bill. Please contact him and your local state representative to make your voice heard against this bill! Is there anyway for us non-californians to help?
Is there anyway for us non-californians to help?
There's a letter that you can download, print, sign, and send/fax to the provided addresses in the OP http://www.airsoftextreme.com/pdf/LettertoLegislatorSB798.pdf
I saw that, just unsure of how credible a letter would be coming from Canadaland. I guess every little bit helps.
Let's get more awareness going, I can see this being bad for the rest of the country.
Got my dad to agree to go against this, and my mom thinks its a great idea :saddowns: Oh well, got some non-cali friends to look at it and possibly help.
Signing this as soon as I get the chance, I already posted it to my facebook for my airsoft buddies to look at and sign themselves. If anything, they don't need to regulate airsoft this badly, they need to get the cheap springers and shit out of candy stores.
What the fuck? It's the realistic and "scary" nature of real airsoft guns that keeps them out of the hands of children.
Move to Poland, everything about airsoft guns is fine there, as long as you don't walk around showing it off on the street...
Or the Philippines. We're pretty chillax around here since the kids are usually on a short leash and only play airsoft when their parents do too.
They've been trying to do this in Scotland, luckily the Scottish parliament listens when people complain because having groups present their side of the arguement is a core part of our system. In America, I'm not so sure. Your politicians seem to have massive egos and a disregard for the reality of their policies, aslong as it gets them votes from soccer moms. Honestly, while it might sound like the end of all things at first, a compromise like we have in the UK where only people who can prove they are skirmishers can buy/import airsoft guns really helps to make airsoft a more legitimate sport, and it vastly improved the quality of airsofters in the country. A solution for Cali might be to have anyone who is stopped carrying a RIF prove they are a skirmisher through carrying a site membership card (from a site with third party liability insurance). Everyone else can just use brightly coloured IFs.
Yep, don't feel like moving. I'd rather stay here in california without there being retarded bills.
Airsoft is a grey area in Ireland, they don't mind us playing, we don't even have orange tips or a UKRA thing, they seem more interested in ensuring we aren't using the game in creating and training paramilitary organizations.
This is just messed up. I own a few guns here and rarely use them, but this is completely over the top. If they look like a toy, children will think it is and probably end up shooting themselves in the eye or something. Watch this kill the entire industry because nobody wants to be seen holding a pretty orange airsoft m4 with green grips. [editline] s [/editline] Time to hide my shit if this passes.
HAHAHAHA And people laughed when my country officially recognized Airsoft as a sport! WHO'S LAUGHING NOW? Ok I'm sure no one actually laughed but hey this sucks. Here's hoping the bill gets rejected, sorry there's nothing I can do to help.
Should I post the banner thing I made here for the OP? Or should I just leave it where it's at?
If this ever passes, I'm gonna bring my new brightly colored guns to the fucking park and have a game and if the neighbors complain and call the cops, Ima retort with, "well shit officer, my guns look like star wars laser pistols from party city; you wouldn't arrest kids with nerf guns either would ye?"
God fucking damn it to hell. You think this shit will help? It won't. Simple as that.
you wouldn't arrest kids with nerf guns either would ye?
I swear to the non-existent god that this actually happened to me. I was in jail for a day because I had a Nerf gun. EDIT: No Smallfry, I'm totally serious. I was walking to my friend who lived down the street to show him this Nerf gun that I swapped the spring in, and there was this cop car at the top of the road who was there for some reason, and then they both got out, pointed their guns at me, and told me to drop the gun. I did so, they searched me, questioned me, checked out my gun, and sent me on my way, but not before following me down the road to make sure I wasn't trying to mug anyone with a Nerf gun.

No bill: A woman and her child walk by a store, and the child wants to buy an airsoft gun. The mother is discouraged and thinks it is dangerous (it is lmao) because it's in all black and only has one feature distinguishing it from the real gun. Bill: A woman and her child walk by a store, and the child wants to buy one of those fucking clear or brightly colored airsoft guns. The mom thinks it's safe because it's colored like a nerf gun or something. Kid gets gun, shoots self in eye, bans airsoft more.
i dont get it, you're using a fake gun why does it need to look real?
i dont get it, you're using a fake gun why does it need to look real?
Cause that's the fun part :v:
It's like why there's realistic looking guns in vidya games cuz its cool~
Stay classy Cali Stay classy
i dont get it, you're using a fake gun why does it need to look real?
Part of the reason I stopped playing paintball is that the majority of the guns looks dumb as hell. Realistic looking guns are awesome.
God damn it fucking California and its shitty ass liberal laws
They've been trying to do this in Scotland, luckily the Scottish parliament listens when people complain because having groups present their side of the arguement is a core part of our system. Restrictions like that can curb the flow of certain killer issues, but it will still needlessly complicate the process and possibly drive up costs anyhow. Our government isn't reasonable enough to hear a bunch of 16 year olds - if you've got money and influence, can fill the pockets of or re-elect the "representatives," you're gold. Otherwise, get in line. On that note, the problem with UK law (and, by extension, instituting similar policies here) would shut out a lot of players, myself included, due to age. I've seen people who were way too old to not know not to play in public or break field rules/do stupidly doing just that. I myself would be disallowed from attending games for the next year if this were true because of age restrictions, and yet somehow I get the feeling there aren't a lot of people with brains at my field besides me. The fact that they're like "holy crap" when they go to out of town games and see people who actually use helmets and reasonable-looking gear or, on the contrary, write them off as "wannabees" is evidence enough.
So news of this reached my community. Everyone supports you guys and wishes the bill doesn't pass. Beyond that, the only discussion is disagreeing with how minors can play (well not really a discussion since everyone agrees on it but you know what I mean). Someone said that the US is the only place that allows this (I guess Canada as well, since some of you are canucks). I'm curious now, how many countries allow minors to play airsoft? Anyone knows?
