The Islamic State militant group has been driven out of most of the northern Syrian town of Kobane, a Kurdish commander tells the BBC.
Baharin Kandal said Islamic State (IS) fighters had retreated from all areas of the border town, except for two pockets of resistance in the east.
US-led air strikes had helped push back the militants, she added.
It comes as the new UN commissioner for human rights described IS as a "potentially genocidal" movement.
Baharin Kandal, who commands Kurds fighting in east Kobane, said in a phone interview with the BBC's Kasra Naji that she hoped the city would be liberated soon.
Ms Kandal said her militia group had been receiving arms, supplies and fighters but she refused to say how, our correspondent on the Turkish border near Kobane says.
last i saw they were close to having taken over kobane so i guess this is good

"Potentially"?
In recent news hasn't Kobane been said to be a diversion so they could take the military bases in Anbar,Iraq? Even if it is not this is a good moral and tactical victory against ISIS because they Kurds held out and wasted ISIS militants in the process.
I wish I had the ability to make a country ball comic.
UN: "No dont go there, they will murder you!"
Kurd:"I dont think they will, I'm Sunni anyw-"
UN:"No dont do this, It is ISIS we are talking about here!"
Kurd:"Leave me alone"
Media:"So what now?"
UN:"Blame Turkey"
Where's the punchline?
Dunno, most probably Blame Turkey part
As I said, I dont have the ability, which inc humor I suppose
I just dont understand how they compare this to Srebrenica
it was possibly the most autistic thing I've read all day
I don't know which I find funnier to watch, Turkish posters in ISIS threads or Russians in Ukraine threads.
Optimistic reporting, it looks like they still hold half of the city.
I'm of this opinion as well. Recent maps show that ISIS controls the vast majority of the city, which is consistent with the combat videos that have emerged. The claims of Kurdish control are from YPG and other Kurdish media sources, who are just as bad as ISIS and every other side in this war at exaggerating their gains. The jury is out on this one.
Shittiest pun of the day
if it is a pun that is
We say "potentially genocidal" because anything said with 100% certainty causes everyone working in the government to get their panties in a bunch.

That pun is always here when Kobane is the thing
