Recently picked up a job that's 20 miles from my house, all highway. I haven't done the calculations on the MPG, but i seem to be burning through a metric ton of fuel. Is there any simple, cost effective ways to improve my MPGs? I've heard of a few things but i'd just like to hear what the genius board here at facepunch has to offer. Please leave some tips/tricks/mods i can do! PS - Just rolled 239,000 on the odometer!
-Give yourself more room to brake when approaching a stop light/stop sign -Accelerate at a slower pace -Make sure your tires are at the recommended psi -Remove some stuff from your jeep you don't use?
The most cost effective way to save fuel is to change your driving style and keep up with regular maintenance(air and fuel filters especially). Any money you end up spending on exhaust kits and intakes and shit will negate any money from fuel savings, even if they manage to improve the fuel economy of your car(which most don't).
Vacuum leak, bad oxygen sensor and catalytic can thrash your mpg.
I had a vacuum leak on the black 88 4.0 Cherokee I had It used 25 liters per 100 km :v:

Carb cleaner, right?
In all honesty, it may not be an option, but try and get a more fuel efficient vehicle. Any jeep of any year is going to have less than ideal gas mileage, its a poor investment on the gas front. If you can't get something else, I recommend coasting whenever possible, if you have cancer and will die in a few months you could try drafting.

My 1995 4.0L i6 Cherokee Classic does about 420km to a 60 liter tank with highway driving... They're just not economical cars. But fuck, they're fun as all hell to drive! Going from my V8 BMW to the i6 Jeep is a world of difference - the BMW has oodles of torque and endless power in the high band, but the Jeep is so bloody quick from a stop. There one second, gone the next. Awesome little 4wds! Doesn't hurt that it's perfectly suited for proper off roading and has all the low range options that modern family caravan '4wds' don't...

That's at least what I heard from other Jeep drivers

Hey, I have an 89 and I have read (and experienced, in mine with almost 200k and 3" lift with 32" tires I get roughly 18 mixed) that if you are getting high teens to very low 20s that is normal, but I know what you mean about fuel usage, $20 in fuel hardly gets me to school and back once (80 mile round trip)...... Just saying, but other websites would probably be better suited for Jeep Cherokee questions such as: http://www.naxja.org/forum/ or http://www.cherokeeforum.com/
80 mile round trip
And I thought my 60 mile back-and-forth commute was hellish. Good thing I had a car that got 28mpg and I transferred to a closer district before gas was over $4/gal.
