A military jet that had reportedly violated Turkish border has crashed in Syria near the Turkish border, media said, adding the jet of unknown origin was shot down by Turkish F16 jets. Two pilots are reported to have ejected.
Reports on twitter claim that one pilot has been captured by Turkmen in Latakia province, apparently he's a Russian.
Oh man, he better not be Russian.
Profile looks like a Su-24, plus two crew parachuting have been seen (its a two seater). Russia is operating them from Khmeimim airbase just south of Latakia (the region its been shot down).
Plus Russia has been warned by Turkey about violating their airspace.
Edit:
Places are starting to say it was Russian
Yeah the source says it was a Russian Su-24, confirmed by the Russian Defense Ministry.
Well shit, Turkey's gonna get some angry correspondence at least.
it's good that the pilots survived
would have gotten real ugly real quick if they hadn't
Bethesda starting early on Fallout 5 i see.

Yeah, that can't be good. But hopefully it will remain within the realm of diplomacy and not more military action.
Isn't this like the second time Russians get shot down after violating Turkish airpsace?
Also, Turkey has some real balls to just shoot them down. A part of me wish that the SAF would do the same every single time the Russians think they own the skies above Sweden...
Russia is claiming that it didn't violate airspace

First one was a surveillance drone, Russia denied any connections.
Russia is claiming that it didn't violate airspace
Russia could land a plane on the White House and claim that it didn't violate airspace.
He has been captured by Turkmens though, not the Turks.

CNN got all the plebs on Twitter running around screaming that this the dawn of WWIII holy shit shut up.

Some news reporter got confused by something. This is Turkmenistan, where Turkmens live: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkmenistan
Edit: Yeah, captured by Syrian Turkmen in Syria's Latakia province.
It's certainly a bad thing for the pilot, since Syrian Turkmens are anti-Assad. They can expect strong retaliation in case of torturing/killing him.

Edit: Yeah, captured by Turkmen minority in Syria's Latakia province.
Those are the other Turkmens :v: The word of "Turkmen" usually has the same meaning as "Turkic" or "Turk" depending on the context.
good or bad?
Afaik, Russia had been bombing them for days now so..

As if Russia would start a nuclear war over two people. How stupid can people get?
So Russian invasion of Turkey when?
Also the subsequent removal of Turkey from NATO just before said invasion?

Doubt there will be war. Maybe some heated words. Worst thing for turkey would be ISIS to be defeated in syria and the kurds gaining ground/power in iraq; which is pretty likely. Maybe thats why they're reluctant to fight ISIS wholesale.
Nice to see people aren't reading the thread and just adding to the confusion.
Russia is probably offering Turkey a deal to calm things down and trying not to escalate the situation, since they are claiming that the plane was shot down over Syrian territory with a surface-to-air missile. Probably trying to blame the anti-Assad rebels/terrorist or whatever you like to call them, since they certainly don't want any kind of confrontation with a strong NATO member, especially in the current situation, where they are trying to ally with the west against Daesh and picture themselves in a positive light.
The pilot is dead/has been killed.

yes they are, because putin has taken the egypt incident personally and he's going to approach this with a lot less restraint than he did before -regardless of whether the outcome is the same.
