• Pub worker falls down trapdoor in London pub
Readers of a certain age will remember the glorious plasticine adventures of the The Trap Door, however for one London pub worker, those memories may be slightly tainted after he fell through one this weekend. The unlucky lad, known only as Eoin, was working behind the bar at a undisclosed pub in the capital this Saturday as a sound tech, when he failed to notice the door to a dumbwaiter, used to send up towels and bar goods from the cellar, was open. Security camera footage shows Eoin walking across the bar looking at a monitor before disappearing in almost instantaneously through the hole in the ground. Eoin fell a full 10 feet, landing on the top of the dumbwaiter. Thankfully he only sustained minor injuries in the shape of a sprained ankle and knee. But even more thankfully, some kind soul put the incident online for us all to enjoy. Happy schadenfreude everyone! Should look where he was going instead of playing with his phone.
He literally walked right into that one.
"Well maybe if I close the door after him, we can pretend it didn't happen."
"Well maybe if I close the door after him, we can pretend it didn't happen."
Hey, out of sight, out of mind.
Looks like he fell for the trap.
Dumbwaiter indeed.
I have absolutely no empathy for this guy. He votes for democrats.
Why did they close the door after the guy fell? [editline]28th August 2012[/editline] I mean I understand ensuring the same thing does not happen again, but at least help the guy up first
It is a damn shame what happend to this fellow american.
Judging by the way the guy looks down into the hole, it appears to be quite deep, and since it's a dumbwaiter he probably just fell into the cellar, thus the guy closes the hole.
Wow, that's really low. Leave a trap door open like that.
That looked rather painful.
made me think of this
Next David Copperfield right here.
"Well maybe if I close the door after him, we can pretend it didn't happen."
Probably shut it so someone else wouldn't fall in.
Bottomless Trap Hole is a good card, but can't compete with Solemn Judgement.

Although, having a dumbwaiter built into the floor is kinda stupid.
Should look where he was going instead of playing with his phone.
I don't get why videos of average people falling are news articles now, and we're sitting here judging this event like we would real news. It's funny but actually really weird.
You fell for my trap card! Hole Goblin, attack!
The thing I don't understand, why do you have that hole in the ground where people are going to walk over? And if it was there first, when the building was made, then why would you arrange your interior in such a way that people have to walk over that hole? This is a perfect example of when a lawsuit is called for in my opinion. At the very least a person should have to open or unlock some kind of cover to get access to even approach it.
Aw I thought he discovered a hidden trap door by falling intro it, that'd be cool. This is just kinda sad.

Like heavy stuff like packs of bottles and the like, and the person who opened it might have called out to let people know it was open, but the person who fell in didn't hear/forgot about it.
Oh I get what it's used for, and why there needs to be access. I'm just saying open access as we see in the video is kind of ridiculous. There is literally not the least warning or protection there. For one thing, it wouldn't be hard to design a cover that slides out of the way while you're using it, then pops back over(spring loaded or something) when you leave. That way this guy would have something solid to step on.
Should look where he was going instead of playing with his phone.
Or better yet, he should have browsed for an app that dynamically warns you about pit-like obstacles in your path
