The Runaways (2010), written and directed by Floria Sigismondi is a biographical film about the 1970's all girl rock band The Runaways, featuring Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, focusing on their relationship, drug use and eventually the dissolution of the rock project.
A more detailed plot summary;
In 1975, San Fernando Valley teen Joan Larkin reinvents herself as Joan Jett, a guitarist who wants to form an all-girl punk band. She pitches the idea to a sleazy manager, Kim Fowley, who pairs her with a drummer and then searches for a face: he finds Cherie Currie, at 15 the perfect jailbait image for his purpose; by luck, she can sing. Two others round out the band, "The Runaways." Fowley books a tour, signs them to Mercury Records, and packs them off to crowds in Japan. Seeds of conflict sprout early: Fowley puts Cherie front and center in the publicity, she's soon strung out on pills and vodka, and jealousies arise. Without adult supervision, where can Joan and Cherie end up?
Cast of characters;
Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett. Joan meets certified weirdo and record producer Kim Fowley and suggests him helping her form an all-girl rock band.
Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie. Cherie is signed on as The Runaways' singer. She eventually collapses down into deep drug abuse and is kicked out of the band.
Stella Maeve as Sandy West. West is introduced to Jett by Fowley (holy crap, 3 last names in one line and not even a comma) and they start jamming together, West playing the drums. The real Sandy West died just before the film got in production.
Scout Taylor-Compton as Lita Ford, the overly swearing but ridiculously good looking lead guitarist of the band.
Alia Shawkat as Robin, the band's bassist. The real bassist of the band, Jackie Fox did not want her real self to appear in the film.
Michael Shannon as Kim Fowley, the colorful manager of The Runaways. He's the kind of guy you love to hate.
THE MUSIC
The thing I enjoyed most about the film, apart from the bands' performance of Cherry Bomb, which featured Fanning in light clothing, is the films' soundtrack. A real good collection of hard rock and punk songs.
I really loved this film. I was kind of expecting a girly film, but...I was proven dastardly wrong, and I thank Merlin for that. Any and all rock and roll fans will love this film, so will all heterosexual men. Definitely a 9/10.
I mean come on, rock n' roll and lightly dressed females rocking it out? What more can you ask for?

Some samples of music from the film;
Cherry Bomb, performed by the original Runaways. This is also performed in the film, really well done.

Kirsten Stewart?
I'll pass.
What is wrong with Kristen's face? Why is her mouth never closed? She looks so gormless and yet self-loving.

The cover of "Cherry Bomb" is really nice, though.
She should stick with something like this instead of "I wanna be a vampire....."
Dakota Fanning's done well for herself
I saw this with my grandma because I saw dakota fanning above the title. :downs:
