This is horrifying
It's not the smartest idea to be crawling around in one of those.
I could not help but read "Palpatine" whenever I saw the suburbs name. This is tragic though.
That's horrible. This is why we need robot friends we can call on an intercom and have them shut down trash compactors.
He must be crushed by the loss of his phone, nobody likes losing their phone...
I'd ask him if he's really square enough to climb into an active trash compactor to get his phone but I can't because he's cubed.
Can you imagine how absolutely horrifying those last few moments must have been? That's an awful way to go.

I bet he tried.
"Siri, will you shut up and listen to me! Shut down all the garbage smashers on the lower level parking garage, will ya? Do you copy? Shut down all the garbage smashers on the lower level parking garage! Shut down all the garbage mashers on the lower level parking garage!"
So he didn't bother unplugging it? What the fuck.
"turned on"?
That's some Final Destination shit right there.
What crosses though somebodies mind and makes them think that jumping into a trash compactor at any time is a good idea?

well if you sit facing the direction of the compactor, it'll crush your skill before anything else and you'd die pretty fast when you head explodes like a watermelon and your body gets compacted into the space of a dixie cup. However, understanding the situation as it occurs can be just as mentally disabling I suppose. I'd probably pass out, or at least I'd hope so. But then again, I don't make a habit of crawling around in trash compactors.
Only in my state
Guess he didn't buy the extended warranty.

Something tells me industrial trash compactors don't have your usual plug on it. But they should have a safety cutoff switch somewhere on the outside. Could have turned it off before getting in...

Unless he did and somebody turned it back on?
This is like my worst fear ever, holy shit

Don't watch the movie 13 Ghosts.
Did he realize it was a trash compactor? Because if I realized it was a trash compactor and I dropped my phone into it, I'm pretty sure I'd just write it off as a loss.

That or make sure everyone working there knows that you are about to crawl in there to retrieve your phone so they know not to turn it on or anything.

nope
phone versus smushed in a trash compactor
so not worth it

What I don't get is why he didn't shut it down.
Most compactors have their own dedicate breaker/override switch. I've had to go inside a couple before because dipshits get them jammed up. You always turn it off though regular mean and then totally kill the power via the switch so it can't even come on if the button or timer kicked in.
Lock out tag out procedures people. Fucking learn it.
The world is occasionally an awful place. Death is usually unexpected

Way to die #537
Candy Crushed
When I worked at Best Buy they told us when we are working near the trash compactor we must follow EVERY rule. We were told if we are caught using our legs to shove boxes or whatever into it we would be fired right away. People really need to start respecting these machines...
I work with one of these every day and it has about 50 labels on every side saying "DO NOT CLIMB IN" and the likes. It's not the same unit every day either, so it's obviously a widespread thing. As horrifying as this is, the guy must have been kind of a dipshit
[QUOTE=cecilbdemodded;41688556]I bet he tried.

I will search the web for "Shut down all the garbage smashers on the lower level parking garage".
Gotta say, if i dropped my phone into something i knew was a potential death trap, even if it cost a lot to get it/s'pretty valuable overall, i would just deal with not having a phone for a few days and sort out getting a new one.
Doubly so because i'm claustrophobic.
