Protests as BBC lets BNP's Nick Griffin on 'Question Time'
218 replies, posted
Protests have sparked from the group Unite Against Facism as the BBC have said they will go ahead and allow BNP's Nick Griffin on their programme 'Question Time'.
The BBC have stated that although controversial, the BNP should be treated as any other political party, as they haven't actually broken any laws.
The BBC have also said that disallowing the BNP on would be a case of 'censorship', and only the government should decide who can and can't be on TV.
The Equalities and Human Rights Commission have agreed with the BBC, that as the BNP are not breaking any laws, they should be allowed to air their opinions on the show.
A member of Unite Against Facism has said, "If it were a news article for example about the BNP, then we wouldn't have a problem with it, it is the fact that this party is allowed on a programme with other parties such as Labour, the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives, and that the BBC are acting as if the BNP's views are acceptable and should be aired."

Question Time - 10:35pm BBC 1
Freedom of speech.
Hey we let the BNP on our show so this is a definite sign we think their views are acceptable!
"Quick, let us censor anything we don't agree with, and anyone who dares to show these opinions, they will get taken out back and taken care of!"
Utter idiocy, while their views can be seen as questionable, they haven't broken any laws, they are just expressing their opinions.

seen as questionable?
are you serious? do you even know what their views are?

If there are immigrants on a boat, we'll sink it and drop life rings and dingies for the immigrants to swim back home.
(That was what he said on BBC news by the way, to all rating me dumb.)
And, if you don't like them (which I don't, extreme solutions don't tend to work.) then don't watch it.

"All foreigners are possible terrorists and keep stealing our jobs. Britain is for white people only. At least our views are only questionable, and not downright offensive."
They said it best on last weeks Question Time. Let him talk infront of the entire nation and let him make a complete arse of himself.
Hiding them away would just make them more appealing. Get it out in the open, show they're morons, they'll go away.

But like the BBC said, there's a difference between offensive and illegal. They don't want to just say, "sorry, you more offensive than Labour and the other parties, so you can't come on" because they're the BBC and that's being bias, which they aren't allowed to be.

I think it will be funny to watch
I think it's a good idea, he'll come across as an idiot compared to real politicians.
as a brown person living in the queen's realm I must applaud his vulgarity since it only rivals my own peoples
Here we see the biggest problem of real democracy: You can't throw people in dungeons just since you dislike them.
Well, in USA they have the gitmo but that is a whole other story...

Yes lets derail the thread with something that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
Haha, I've been waiting for this for ages.
I hate the bastard and everything that he and his party stand for - but that doesn't mean I don't want to see him on Question Time. Shit, I want him to be on so that people can see just how useless he is.
He has his right to freedom of speech - it doesn't mean that I have to agree with him.
I think people are underestimating British people if they think that one broadcast with someone from the BNP will cause issues.
I hope he gets butt fucked, especially now so many people will be watching....
Yup, my faith in the people of Britain is restored =]
Apparently there are protesters stopping him getting into the studio

Why would they want to stop him making an arse of himself?
Why would they want to stop him making an arse of himself?
Because most protesters are idiots and are about as crazy as Nick Griffin themselves.
Why would they want to stop him making an arse of himself?
I just don't know, i just heard some bloke on the radio say letting him on would just add 'insult to injury' as everyone knows he's an arse already.
There was some guy trying to rally signatures outside the common area at uni the other day. He was calling the BNP fascist while demanding their right to free speech be taken away.. That's the reason I don't have an opinion on this matter. I'd prefer to just let them say what they have to say, and then vote for someone else.
Thing is though, the BNP's constitution was recently declared to be unlawful, and Nick Griffin has had to close the party to new members while he convinces them to change it. So the BNP has kind of broken the law in that respect.

He's going to get demolished.
I feel sorry for the BNP in a way. They've been labeled as racist, when if you read up on them, all they want is to cut down on immigration. It's not about being black or white.
I think whoever is born in england, they can stay. but you come from any other country they will cut you down either way.
P.S Im British and support BNP

No.
The British National Party (BNP) is a far-right, whites-only[13] political party in the United Kingdom

"The British National Party represents the collective National, Environmental, Political, Racial, Folkish, Social, Cultural, Religious and Economic interests of the indigenous Anglo-Saxon, Celtic and Norse folk communities of Britain and those we regard as closely related and ethnically assimilated or assimilable aboriginal members of the European race also resident in Britain. Membership of the BNP is strictly defined within the terms of, and our members also self define themselves within, the legal ambit of a defined ‘racial group’ this being ‘Indigenous Caucasian’ and defined ‘ethnic groups’ emanating from that Race as specified in law in the House of Lords case of Mandla V Dowell Lee (1983) 1 ALLER 1062, HL."
BNP is basically every white British persons actual thoughts. Its just they don't want to agree with them so they aren't classed as racist.
