The Carlotta Gall story, “What Pakistan Knew About Bin Laden,” has been much ballyhooed in the US press for several days now. It’s actually a much broader retelling of Gall’s frustration at being stonewalled for years by US and Pakistani officials over the latter government’s messy involvement with jihadism. But it also reassesses longstanding rumours that the ISI, Pakistan’s intelligence agency, had sheltered the al-Qaeda sheik until his killing by US military forces in 2011. (It’s an allegation that’s not without its critics, even today.) It ran on the front page of the Times’ international edition published in Asia on Saturday. They obviously didn't want to get backlash from the Pakistani government/people
Oh shit,Bin Laden got killed in 2011? Feels like it was in late 2012 or something. Time flies.
It's a little weird that it's not just the story missing, but a lot of the other stories on the front page have their titles changed.
They obviously didn't want to get backlash from the Pakistani government/people
But to simply wipe the story from the paper? Why not place one of the other frontpage stories there instead?
But to simply wipe the story from the paper? Why not place one of the other frontpage stories there instead?
because it was hastily done. [editline]23rd March 2014[/editline]
It's a little weird that it's not just the story missing, but a lot of the other stories on the front page have their titles changed.
They probably changed some of the titles and wording so their demographic could understand it. Some people there might not know where Beijing is, but they probably know what China is.
But to simply wipe the story from the paper? Why not place one of the other frontpage stories there instead?
For some reason my brain farted and I though this was a bad attempt at a toilet paper joke
But to simply wipe the story from the paper? Why not place one of the other frontpage stories there instead?
its a way to protest the censorship, they are technically complying but everybody knows whats going on
They probably changed some of the titles and wording so their demographic could understand it. Shit like this makes me embarrassed to be pakistani
The story is probably hiding in a cave in Afghanistan this time.
It was the illermindaddiodadidididdlydiddlyhowdiddlyhodiddlydimdangdiddlydongdongdoowahdiddydiddydumdiddydoo.
Oh shit,Bin Laden got killed in 2011? Feels like it was in late 2012 or something. Time flies.
I remembered it was 2011 because IIRC it wasn't that long after Portal 2 was released and PSN went down.
He who rewrites history also controls the future.
I don't get what the controversy is. They DID help Osama.
Shit like this makes me embarrassed to be pakistani
Would this story cause violence?
I don't get what the controversy is. They DID help Osama.
But they can't just admit it, because the US pretty much funds their defense.
But to simply wipe the story from the paper? Why not place one of the other frontpage stories there instead?
To make a point? If they are being forced (either actually forced or avoiding repercussions from shareholders or something) they might want to make it obvious.
of course it was, free press doesnt exist in america
Except thats blatantly untrue
Doc and Marty went back to 1991 and killed Osama.
Would this story cause violence?
It wouldn't on its own but someone in a high position could spin it around as american anti pakistan propaganda.
