The website "Inside Mobile Apps" reported today that Microsoft is supposedly looking towards getting rid of their cumbersome Microsoft Points System in favor of regional currency. This change comes in light of Microsoft's urge to compete with the Android Marketplace and Apple's AppStore. Getting rid of the points system found on Windows Phone, and Xbox Live would allow users a less hectic way of keeping track of how much "money" they have in their account. Those days where you have to calculate how much money you'll have to spend to purchase X amount of points? Gone, and good riddance. If this rumor is true, then Microsoft should be getting rid of their points system by the end of 2012.

Thank fucking god.
I have literally 155 points on my account. It's bullshit.
Good, M$ Points were a hassle to count up and calculate the total dollar value of them, i bought something on XBlive for 95 points and had 100 points. that was 5 points i couldn't spend on shit.
At least Steam Wallet's currency isn't a bitch to convert mentally
it's literally dollars :v:
(even though it's not called dollars its rate is 1:1 with USD)
FUCKING FINALLY.
It sounds like such a minute thing, but this system just bugs me so fucking much. PSN always had it down pat, local currency over some funbuckz system.
funny, You can't buy Windows Phone apps with MS points. So this changes nothing for me.
I have 3 MS points left on my XBL account.
I hope this is true, because as of now, when you buy MS points, it gives you only just enough to buy an app, game, dlc, what have you, so you'll have like x amount left, but only need like 80 points more to buy something else, so you have to spend more money just to repeat the process, it's sleazy and cheap.
Only took them 7-8 years to finally realize how stupid the points system was! Bravo Microsoft!
Xbox has so much shit wrong with it it's almost not worth putting up with anymore

Then don't use an xbox...? Honestly nobody is forcing you too.
Fucking finally.
The 5 dollars = 400 points was retarded, made price reading very confusing.
This costs 240 points.
So, what is this really costing me? Oh right, 5$ because I have to fucking buy 400 of them, and the other 160, nearly fucking useless, want a use for them? Oh, buy another 5$ worth, deal with more remainders.
You guys realize why they made it uneven right?
I remember reading an article about it, they have uneven amounts so that they play on human psychology. You're more likely to have some left over and you're then psychologically more likely to buy more points so you don't "waste" the ones you had leftover
So will my points be converted into money? I think I have like 12,00 points just sitting there not being used. I didn't buy them, I won them for some work contest. So it would be nice to get money for them.
The points system is just like at any arcade or Dave and Busters. You bring your real money, turn it into fake money, then leave with fake money. Technically, it's "worth" the same amount, but good luck bringing it to the bank.
Self sustaining economy!
It's not like they did it to be fun or simple, it was to screw everybody over. They're converting now because no one else ran with the idea (thankfully) and the system is bleeding over into competitive markets

Yeah, initially, but then people started trying to calculate how much money they had in their accounts in USD or other real currency. This is just them realizing that it'd be a boost to sales if they take out the pretty much bullshit conversion so people don't have to put in effort to learn how much something costs
Fucking finally.
Just pointing out that it isn't confirmed. The article says supposedly they are, and if the rumor is correct.
I would really love it if they did, though. That points system was shit.

You're still forced into putting in a flat amount in order to purchase things with values in between.
I have 38 cents that I'll never ever be able to get rid of.

Well I think if he says the xbox isn't worth being used anymore, it means he's not going to use it anymore...
American Price = $5
Canadian Price = $20
I can just see this coming..
