In a bizarre turn of events prompted by the ensuing debate over what kinds of fanart are acceptable, some fans have now turned even against the show's creative team, including show creator Rebecca Sugar. It all started last week when a fanartist going by the name Zamii caused a scare on Tumblr when she posted an apparent final note to her Tumblr, then disappeared for three days. When she re-emerged, it was to post a tearful video she claimed was being filmed at a hospital where she said she was getting the help she needed. Prior to Zamii's alarming initial farewell, members of the Steven Universe and Homestuck fandoms had reportedly created more than 40 critical blogs and other social media accounts directed at her because they believed she was purveying problematic depictions of many of the characters she drew. During her time in fandom, Zamii had been accused of a litany of flawed portrayals of characters, including perpetuating "racism/stereotyping, transmisogyny/transphobia, apologism, incest, pedophilia, fatphobia, and ableism" in her art.

It wasn't enough to halt her feeling that she was being bullied. Though Zamii is recovering—her most recent update was Monday—the concern over the abuse she received has caused a maelstrom throughout her fandoms. A post made last week on Reddit's Homestuck subreddit about the situation garnered dozens of supportive comments condemning the culture that motivated the bullying. The Steven Universe and related tags on Tumblr have been overflowing with similar outrage, backlash to the sentiment that harassment and bullying are somehow justified when they're in the name of progressive ideals. The wave of support for Zamii on Tumblr has led to a paradoxical campaign: Other fanartists are deliberately drawing the character of Rose Quartz as thin in protest. [editline]October 29th, 2015[/editline] One notable highlight from this fiasco
pot calling the kettle black, eh? not particularly surprising, considering a lot of those "social justice warriors" barely understand what social justice even implies. most of them just tack on the label so they can push their own agenda onto others.
I got sick of seeing artists getting harassed and attacked for something as simple as drawing characters from a children's cartoon in their own art style long ago. Sites like Tumblr in particular are good at snowballing petty slander thrown from just about anywhere.
This list is hilarious.
"racism/stereotyping, transmisogyny/transphobia, apologism, incest, pedophilia, fatphobia, and ableism"
People are really taking this internet thing very seriously. Don't they have anything to do besides harassing people online lmao?
i hope these so-called "special snowflakes" these jerks think they are get reality slapped to them, and hard. everyone's getting fucking sick of them
Oh c'mon, you can't reach this low. It seems you are not even safe when you drawn something without someone getting all upset and offended.
People are really taking this internet thing very seriously. Don't they have anything besides harassing people online lmao?
just what i was thinking
love how they always use "problematic" as a word for anything that doesn't adhere to their strict moralistic guidelines on how to do/say/think anything. it's actually just textbook bullying.
Yeah, people were freaking the fuck out because fan artists were drawing the the characters with too light or too dark skin. These people are fuckin' animals
uhhh i thought sjws dont exist and are a made up strawman used to harass people?!
In 2013, Zamii drew this partial view of Rose Quartz which her detractors felt depicted the character as too thin:
what kind of fucking psycho do you have to be to be offended by this lmao
Part of the "evidence" that she was transmisogynistic included her using the words "dude" and "man" as interjectory statements while talking to a woman, then joking about the word use.
I seriously can't believe this
what kind of fucking psycho do you have to be to be offended by this lmao
they have disengaged from reality in favor of tumblr
I wish I was an artist I would draw every single steven universe character as a thin latino/dark/not white person and then post it on every SJW's page with the text "How SU should have been made"
they have disengaged from reality in favor of tumblr
They live in an alternate reality where unicorns shit candy and everyone is equally fat, and black people and white men don't exist.
I seriously can't believe this
Transmysogynistic? The fuck? I wikipedia'd it, and it's essentially a fabricated word used to describe a cross-section of the population that makes up less than 0.5%. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transmisogyny See also: Mysogynoir (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misogynoir) and coming soon, pantransmysogynoir, for the truly discerning tumblrist. (The number of red lines under words in this post disturbs me.)
Jones-Quartey's comments ushered in a new phase of the debate, as fans began criticizing his comments, along with series creator Rebecca Sugar. Years ago, when Sugar was still just a fan, she created fanart of underage characters, which has suddenly now opened her up to accusations of pedophilia from fans accusing her of creating "child pornography." The artwork under discussion depicts non-graphic sexual activity between two characters whose ages are ambiguous in a black-and-white cartoon comic. As these fans began to direct criticism toward the Steven Universe creators, other onlookers criticized Tumblr culture itself for being so quick to turn on its own.
It's one thing to get bitchy about portrayals of characters from cartoons and the like just because it goes against your so-called "own moralistic beliefs" but to falsely accuse and demonize the creators of a show which is also the head of your fandom? Fucking disgusting.

The rad-tumblr's are also jumping down this person working on the snow's throat because he's popular on there and has "a lot of influence." He basically said that people should be able to draw whatever, however you want. They're trying to dig dirt on'em being a pedophile, with their evidence being he likedone of those Japanese ship girl pictures. EDIT:
Not So Friendly Reminder That @ianjq, Ya know the one working on SU that said “People can draw what they want without criticism” is the SAME one who liked a pedophilic picture on tumblr. The link is here, but #pedophilia warning. [x] I’ll also include censored pictures under the cut if you dont want to go to the webpage
Jesus Christ. This isn't even the first time something like this has happened either. Wasn't Tumblr supposed to be the pillow-lined, "safe" part of the Internet? I've browsed all the places people demonize as the Internet's hellholes, and still regularly frequent quite a few of them. I have made and shared many things in my spare time that, while not meant to "troll", I was absolutely sure could be taken very badly by types of people quite likely to come across them. I have said many things I've come to regret, and many more that I probably should but do not. In response, I've been called a "fag" every now and again. What the fuck is going on over there? Why am I more secure being my terrible self out in the "wild frontiers" while people actually vulnerable to this type of treatment are getting it super hard in places that actively lured them in with the promise of safety?
i hope these so-called "special snowflakes" these jerks think they are get reality slapped to them, and hard. everyone's getting fucking sick of them
that is an ableist statement because some people are unable to slap because of disabilities
Oh boy when reality hits, it's gonna hit hard. Like are you for real right now, what's up with this shit lmao
I'm just assuming these people stay locked up in their houses/apartments 24/7 and have no contact with anybody outside of social media and tumblr. Their world views are skewed as fuck
I use https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/word-replacer-ii/djakfbefalbkkdgnhkkdiihelkjdpbfh replace "SJW" with "nazi" and you'll understand everything
I use that + "MRA" as "jews"
Is there any of this girl's art? Her tumblr seems to be deleted [editline]28th October 2015[/editline] found it http://zamii070.tumblr.com/
-snip-
i feel like a lot of this stems from the fact that many SU fans are ex (or current) homestuck fans and homestuck is notorious for having batshit fans.
The SU fandom is where creativity and sanity goes to die. At this point it's probably not far fetched to say that they're managed to surpass bronies in terms of being awful.
