Bennu is 500 metres wide and regularly crosses Earth's orbit, posing a threat of collision. Some calculations indicate that it has a 1-in-1,800 chance of hitting in the year 2182. However, the real risks won't be known until we can analyze the asteroid's physical makeup, so scientists are eager to get a chance to get a close-up look at the asteroid and have a piece of it in their hands to study. The spacecraft is expected to be ready for launch by 2016 and will rendezvous with the giant space rock in 2018. It will then study Bennu's geology for about 8 months, and once it has found a safe spot for collecting samples, the probe will descend and hover a few metres above the surface and use a robotic arm to collect material and return it to Earth in 2023.
Source: https://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/geekquinox/canada-partners-nasa-intercept-asteroid-could-hit-earth-163755717.html
Thanks, CaNASA
I'll be dead, IDGAF! :D
If reincarnation exists, you're fucked.
Until your reincarnated again.
i say we hit em with an asteroid pre-emptive strike
If reincarnation exists, you're fucked.
let's upload him into a mainframe and install the thing directly where the asteroid is calculated to strike
If reincarnation exists, you're fucked.
What if i get reincarnated as the asteroid?!! :O then i wouldn't be fucked but i would be the one doing the fucking! royally!
What if i get reincarnated as the asteroid?!! :O then i wouldn't be fucked but i would be the one doing the fucking! royally!
i don't think the asteroid would survive the impact either
What if i get reincarnated as the asteroid?!! :O then i wouldn't be fucked but i would be the one doing the fucking! royally!
You can't be reincarnated into something that already exists.
1 in 1800 chances to hit us by 2182, money well spent.
MAN, today has just been HORRIBLE for news.
I would be much happier if we just rammed the thing with the spacecraft and see what happens. Roll the dice, science. I'm feeling lucky.
You can't be reincarnated into something that already exists.
Who says? The reincarnation police?
Looks like it's time for STONEHENGE
i don't think the asteroid would survive the impact either
The moon? Nice front row seat to the apocalypse.
somebody please call Bruce Willis(and Ja Rule so i can make sense of this)!
http://m.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=500m+asteroid+impact+17+km%2Fs Some interesting theoretical data for a 500m asteroid impact at 17km/s if it impacted at a 90 degree angle. I dont think an asteroid this size would destroy the world if it landed in the middle of the ocean, but it would sure leave a fucking mark.
North American master race.
1 in 1800 chances to hit us by 2182, money well spent.
o, the humanity of it all, as this very potentially world-saving scientific project might result in a marginal increase of tax than average, a change that, if it even warranted a budget increase to begin with, would be so minute as to be unnoticeable to the taxpayer! my heart weeps eternal upon news of this tragedy.
If anyone can do it... NASA CAN.

The end is soonish
The end is soonish
the end is soonish maybe
I think NASA is just trying to scare the world into giving them a giant space laser at this point.
If we're able to rendezvous with it, why don't we use this one for the asteroid capture plan instead of the other one? Kill two birds with one stone - prevent a collision, and nab an asteroid.

I bet they'd just alter this one's course rather than actually stop the thing, that would be extremely difficult.
If reincarnation exists, you're fucked.
Is he? That's what bugs me about the idea of reincarnation: If his memory and personality is wiped, isn't that essential no different from just dying forever and some other person being born?
Have fun future generations
