Ominous developments in Ukraine have prompted Prime Minister Stephen Harper to strongly condemn Russian military intervention in the country while urging President Vladimir Putin to withdraw his troops immediately. In a statement issued following a cabinet meeting held Saturday afternoon, Harper said Canada is recalling its ambassador from Moscow and pulling out of the G8 process being chaired by Russia. At the same time, Canada is recognizing the legitimacy of the new, pro-Western Ukrainian government. "Ukraine's sovereign territory must be respected and the Ukrainian people must be free to determine their own future," Harper said in his statement. "We call on President Putin to immediately withdraw his forces to their bases and refrain from further provocative and dangerous actions." He warns that should Putin push forward with military action, it will lead to "ongoing negative consequences" for Canada-Russia relations. The cabinet meeting was called after Russian parliament gave Putin the green light on Saturday to use the country's military in Ukraine. Russian armed forces have seized control of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula. Canadian cabinet ministers met by phone and in person well into the evening on Saturday, agreeing to join the United States and the United Kingdom in issuing strongly worded condemnations of the Russian actions and taking concrete steps to show they mean business.
read more Canada joins upside down-Canada in telling Putin to fuck off.
I don't think we should have pulled our ambassador, the key to influence is relations. But the call to withdraw troops is needed. Regardless, Stephen Harper is imposing his personal ideals on Canada, has anybody else been tracking his pro-Israeli moves lately? It's very difficult to respect this man here and I cannot wait to vote NDP or Liberal.
you know when you pull your ambassador out that shit's gonna get reeeeeeeeeeeeeal
you know when you pull your ambassador out that shit's gonna get reeeeeeeeeeeeeal
Well considering Russia hasn't pulled theirs from the U.S I doubt much will happen.
Well considering Russia hasn't pulled theirs from the U.S I doubt much will happen.
well aren't you a bundle of fun
well aren't you a bundle of fun
Because not expecting or wanting war makes you such a buzz-kill.
well aren't you a bundle of fun
yes because a conflict between nations is a fun thing.
But they have
I never got it confirmed though, can you get me a source?
I never got it confirmed though, can you get me a source?
Yeah I heard it once then never heard about it again, last I heard was "considering recalling ambassador".
But they have
No we haven't. There were talks about it, parliament requested it, but Putin never ordered the ambassador to be pulled.
Oh well, I thought they did at least
you know when you pull your ambassador out that shit's gonna get reeeeeeeeeeeeeal
You know when Canada pulls out their ambassador shit is aboot to go down.
You know when Canada pulls out their ambassador shit is aboot to go down.
Canada booted the Iranian ambassador when shit started to get interesting down there so actually it doesn't mean much.

I don't like Stephen Harper's political platform but saying that he is "Imposing his personal ideals" when he is condemning a country for outright invasion is farcical.
you know when you pull your ambassador out that shit's gonna get reeeeeeeeeeeeeal
Probably not. Thank you for not fucking around on this one, Harper.
You know when Canada pulls out their ambassador shit is aboot to go down.
More like Canada just follows suit in whatever international politicking that the US is doing. Gotta follow our o̶v̶e̶r̶l̶o̶r̶d̶ big brother.
More like Canada just follows suit in whatever international politicking that the US is doing.
Canada has lately been more pro-Israel than the U.S.
Canada has lately been more pro-Israel than the U.S.
Cause we know who's coming once Obama is out :v:, following the trends. [editline]2nd March 2014[/editline] And it's not like Obama is anywhere near anti-israel anyway. [editline]2nd March 2014[/editline]
Problem is the only reason harper is still around is due to voter apathy,
Or some people voted for him that helps too...
yea because presidents or prime ministers have never done that before right?
because justin trudeau has common sense.
incorrect
Problem is the only reason harper is still around is due to voter apathy, only reason he was elected this time is because layton died :(
Layton died after the election, the only reason the NDP are official opposition is because of Layton not resigning when he honestly should have. Layton should not have run in that last election.
you know when you pull your ambassador out that shit's gonna get reeeeeeeeeeeeeal
Oh yeah dude here comes a Canadian spearheaded invasion of Siberia Just wait I swear we're coming
