• Door Issues (Lock Mechanism Fail)

Ok so I've been working on my 89 Chevy Cavalier which I bought from a friend. Everything is great in the car aside from the rear right passenger door which is stuck shut. I had fixed it before by taking the door panel off and basically blindly pushing on the mechanism to release the latch from the door catch. The problem though is that if you lock the door while it's shut and latched the problem starts over and you have to manually release the latch. I could try removing the mechanism but that requires a lot of unnecessary effort if it's just a simple fix. I really don't want to have to take out the window and the window frame to remove the door mechanism. Also to note it is a manual lock and manual window.

When in doubt, hose it down. Smooth as can be.
It's weird because I feel that it may have come loose from the rest of the mechanism because the door handle feels loose and doesn't have much resistance behind pulling it. Trying to open from the inside is tighter but it doesn't have the strength to pull the mechanism down far enough to release the latch.
Oh, there's your problem.
Ok so I've been working on my 89 Chevy Cavalier which I bought from a friend.
Scrap it.

You probably need to replace the door locks/mechanism.
better stuck shut than stuck open
Oh, there's your problem. Scrap it.
It drives better than just about any other car I've driven, and working on it is roomy in the engine bay.
I would remove the whole panel and get a look at the mechanism. I've got a similar problem where the lock works fine, but the interior door handle doesn't open the door... forcing me to get out and open it for somebody. I bet it literally just came apart inside and I just have to reattach whatever it is. And with my front driver side, I've got to replace my whole mechanism. Driver door never locks, the manual lock just turns side to side when I use the key, and when it does decide to randomly lock, it gets sticky. Time to maneuver through Ford's 5 layer door panel on both doors to get to it them  ... joy. NOT
The saving grace about this car is getting the panel off is easy, but then to try and remove the mechanism seems impossible because you have to get the window and its frame out so that you can move the mechanism to a spot big enough to pull it out. I guess my issue is that I don't know how it's supposed to look normally, so pulling the whole thing out just to not know jack is frustrating.
Better try to look nearest locksmith service and I'm sure that they going to help you with this matter. Beaverton Locksmith (User was permabanned for this post ("Spambot" - MaxOfS2D))
Oh, there's your problem. Scrap it.
I don't get how you could love the Corsica/Beretta and hate the Cavalier, especially considering they shared the same engines.
Why would you bump this.
Why would you bump this.
Wait what? I don't get it, this thread was bumped just before I posted yesterday.

well while its bumped, my driver side lock only opens if i turn the key to lock first, then to open, otherwise it only half opens. 00 tacoma.
