Tron 3 won't be coming to a theater near you.
Disney has chosen not to move forward with a third installment in the sci-fi series, sources say. While sources say the project was never officially greenlit, earlier this year it seemed that things were moving ahead with Tron:Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski returning to direct and stars Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund reprising their roles.
Prep had been started on the third film, and production was looking to shoot this fall, likely in Vancouver, British Columbia. Disney had been interested in adding Jared Leto to the cast, but an offer and negotiations had never commenced.
Disney has had strong success with its live-action properties recently, including Maleficent and this year's Cinderella, which earned $527.4 million worldwide. But it recently had a stumble with the $180 million live-action film Tomorrowland, which underperformed at the box office this past weekend with a $33 million U.S. debut.
Disney's live-action tentpole calendar is pretty full for the next few years, with live-action versions of many of its animated classics in the works including The Jungle Book, Alice: Through the Looking Glass and Beauty and the Beast.
I am deeply upset about this.
rip Daft Punk soundtrack part 2
Fuck konami
First Metal Gear, then the Hamburglar, now this.
-nevermind-
nope nope nope, I need my techno fetish.
Oh well. I really didn't like Tron: Legacy anyway.
I didn't either but I fucking love Tron and that ending was blueballs as fuck
Blame Tomorrowland and Damon Lindelof :v:
Giving daft punk access to an orchestra was an amazing idea for the last tron; I really wanted it to happen again

Tron Legacy was the second best Daft Punk music video ever.
My prayers have been answered.
Tron 3 is still probably going to happen. Just someday and not now.
Its a very hot IP still, one that is worth more then sitting in the land of unused intellectual properties.
After what happened to Uprising I'm not surprised, just incredibly disappointed.
Another Alice? Wasn't Timmy's version enough grimdark for the kiddos?
Better to just leave it at tron legacy. Where could they even go from there anyway?
Looks like they pulled the plug on this computer flick!
But in all honesty, I didn't think the second one was as good as the first one which is one of my favorite movies.

It was mostly a retread of the first one, but I think it had a lot of potential for sequels.
Especially with that obvious sequel bait of Cillian Murphy playing the son of the original villain.
It's not a Marvel superhero film so instead of pulling in small countries worth of cash it's best to just cancel it.
God fucking dammit, forget about the plot, the environment and art style in Tron is fucking iconic. God dammit, George Clooney.
Tron Legacy is for me such a great film visually. I could watch it all day. Don't really care for the plot or anything, I can just sit and watch and take it in.
I'd love another one
Disney must be really fucking pissed over Tomorrowland. It has performed terrible. But you could see tomorrowlands failure coming after watching the trailer, it looks bad.
rip KH3 tron world
I'm pretty sure one reason is that although Tron Legacy was pretty big, it wasn't like 'marvel movie big'. Plus, the marketing wasn't as huge. So I guess they see that now, with the people forgetting about Tron Legacy (the average person won't really care, besides the visuals) and the fact that they might not make such a huge profit this time might be one reason to stop this.
At least that was what I thought.
Damnit, Disney, stop screwing around with franchises, you cancel Star Wars games, now Tron? I was so happy to learn that Tron is going to have another movie and now I see this.
Damn it. Pretty much everything that came out of that movie was awesome. Olivia Wilde, amazing soundtrack, cool visuals etc
I actually never knew they were going to make a third one until I saw this. I just re-watched legacy again last night. I loved both the first and legacy. I'm not entirely sure how they would have gone about it though as Kevin, Tron, Clu, and that giant ship was destroyed. Unless Kevin's kid goes back maybe and tries to rebuild it? I'd love to see a third. On a side note, I have to agree with a previous post, Tomorrow land looked horrible just from the trailer, and trailers are generally comprised of the best parts of a movie. Could it have been good? perhaps. But why the fuck would you get george cloony?
awesome, thanks Disney! First you cancel an incredibly well-done TRON: Uprising with an intriguing cliffhanger at the end of season with great characters and plot; then you proceed to cancel the continuation of TRON: Legacy, which doesn't have that great of a plot but is great visually/audially and the setting itself is what's sold it to me. Now it means there's no reason to expect the TRON game that is 'rumored to be in development' to be out as well. Might as well ditch that since apparently Disney don't like to work on stuff that people liked before.
Pretty much means R.I.P this:

Man did companies take an overdose of the stupid pill lately? whats with all the cancelling of franchises that people would actually watch and love?
Wow so a movie with poorly defined concepts, story, and quite frankly weird casting, flops and it has to drag down tron
Tommorowland had a lot of good elements but frankly fell far short because of bad writing and the rather weird cast of two young girls, and George cluney
Oh that's OK, we all just wanted more Pirate of the Caribbean movies anyway!
