Hello Facepunch,
I come with the imparted knowledge and little known facts about rainbows! Now I know that rainbows are associated with the "Optimistic" rating on Facepunch, but I figure I would share a little bit more about them!
As you all know, rainbows are formed when the pressurized atmosphere contains water that the sunlight reflects off of. Essentially, the raindrops act as a "prism" which spits out the color spectrum (A La Pink Floyd).

The outer arch of the rainbow almost always displays the color red, while the inner arch displays the color purple. The systematic organization of the rainbow is what helped create the use of cool and warm colors by artists over the millenniums.
The low altitude agle light will reflect THROUGH the water droplet and it going through the next water droplet which is what causes the illusion of the half circle rainbow. The amount by which light is refracted depends upon its wavelength, and hence its colour. Blue light (shorter wavelength) is refracted at a greater angle than red light, but due to the reflection of light rays from the back of the droplet, the blue light emerges from the droplet at a smaller angle to the original incident white light ray than the red light. You may then think it is strange that the pattern of colours in a rainbow has red on the outside of the arc and blue on the inside. However, when we examine this issue more closely, we realize that if the red light from one droplet is seen by an observer, then the blue light from that droplet will not be seen because it must be on a different path from the red light: a path which is not incident with the observer's eyes. The blue light seen in this rainbow will therefore come from a different droplet, which must be below that whose red light can be observed.

In addition to rainbows, there are also several different types of rainbows including the Moonbow and the Snowbow. The Moonbow is just like a rainbow in appearance, but is caused by the light reflected from the moon, rather than the sun. Of course, the light still comes from the sun, but is relected by the moon and then into the water droplet.

A Snowbow (also known as a Whitebow) is a rainbow created from the Sun (or Moon) while diffracting off of the small water vapor droplents in the air. So much in fact that the colors cancel eachther out leaving a ghostly white rainbow.

Interesting Rainbow Facts
- When you see a rainbow, the sun will always be behind you.
- Rainbows contain colors we cant see.
- When one person sees a rainbow, it may vary in color to a person sitting next to you due to Point of View.
- Another larger bow is often seem outside the primary rainbow and parallel to it. This secondary rainbow is produced in a similar way, but the sun's light is reflected twice before emerging from the raindrop. For this reason, the color sequence is reversed; red is on the inside edge. And because there is a loss of light with each reflection, it is not as bright as the primary rainbow. The region between the two bows is comparatively dark, for it lacks entirely both the once and the twice reflected rays. There is theoretical evidence for a tertiary rainbow , but it would be so faint as to be rarely seen in nature.
- You cannot pass a rainbow.
Rainbows as a Gay Icon
The colors were designed to symbolize: red (life), orange (healing), yellow (sunlight), green (nature), blue (harmony), and purple/violet (spirit). The removed colors stood for sex (pink) and art/magic (turquoise). Another presumed origin is the song Over the Rainbow, synonymous with gay icon Judy Garland, whose film The Wizard of Oz has often been interpreted as an allegory of gay coming out.
