Arkadelphia - An Arkadelphia mother is charged with harassment for making entries on her son's Facebook page.
Denise New's 16 year old son filed charges against her last month and requested a no contact order after he claims she posted slanderous entries about him on the social networking site. New says she was just trying to monitor what he was posting.

"You're within your legal rights to monitor your child and to have a conversation with your child on Facebook whether it's his account, or your account or whoever's account. It's crazy to me that we're even having this interview."
New remains in shock after her son slapped her with the charge of harassment. In a document from the Clark County prosecutor, he alleges she hacked his account, changed his password and posted things that involve slander about his personal life.

"I read things on his Facebook about how he had gone to Hot Springs one night and was driving 95 m.p.h. home because he was upset with a girl and it was his friend that called me and told me about all this that prompted me to even actually start really going through his Facebook to see what was going on."
Prosecutor Todd Turner won't comment on the specifics because of the son's age, but he did cite Arkansas' harassment law.
[I]A person commits the offense if with purpose to harass, annoy or alarm another person without good cause, he engages in conduct or repeatedly commits acts that alarm or seriously annoy another person.

"Oh yeah, I'm going to fight it. If I have to go even higher up, I'm going to. I'm not gonna let this rest. I think this could be a precedent-setting moment for parents."
New's son lives with his grandmother who has custodial rights, but New maintains she'd had a great relationship with him despite their living arrangements.
Her next court date is May 12th.
http://www.katv.com/news/stories/0410/723100.html

That's kind of extreme. :geno:
Family and facebook never really mixed well.
That kid should get punished instead, stripped off the internet for a couple of decades and a fucking reality flash about how stupid he's being.
Blimey, she sounds like a real nosey parker.
Was she Christian?
it was his friend that called me and told me about all this
What a dick friend!
Edit:
Okay, seriously? He's a dick friend because he called up his buddy's mom to say "Your son was speeding on the highway, you should check out his facebook." Who hasn't sped when mad at some point?
I think the son is fucking retarded for taking this to court, but the friend shouldn't be tattling on his buddy. Maybe it's just me though.
Tough love.

DAMN AUTO-MERGE BREAKER! /caps
I hope the mom beats the shit out of that little prick.
I call bullshit on the kid's claims.
Everyone knows concerned mothers don't know how to use computers decently, let alone hacking.
He probably got in an argument over his mom about how he wanted money to buy something he "Needed", so he staged this by changing his password and making the posts so he could get his money.
What a little prick.
If the hacking was real, though, then that mom is an absolute idiot. Whether or not it's your family, privacy is deserved.
It sounds like the son was being a little fucktard. I think the mother was being nosey, but for the son to sue his mom is just out of line in my opinion.

You should really read the article properly.

Kid shouldn't post his personal, incriminating shit on his wall, this would have never happened.

Wheres the harassment made by the mother?
Why did he even have her as a friend? His fault.
She didn't. If you'd read it, it says she went onto his account.
Well that isn't gonna make family dinner akward.
Wait 16 and hes driving?

Sounds like a good friend to me for looking out for his buddy.
My mom tried to add me on Facebook.
I insta-clicked the ignore button.
I think this kid is well within his boundaries though. Technically hacking into another persons account is a federal offense. You're looking at hidden information, not to mention posting claims unverified by the user.
As her child under the age of 18 I would say anything goes, but she is not the legal guardian, the grandparents are.
Whoa, thankfully my mother is a smart person and does not give a crap about my facebook profile. I'm not in her list, she isn't in mine.
Thank you, parents with a working brain.
That's why I blocked my mom on facebook. It had to be done.
Ugh, I hate kids like this. "Oh, I'm so sad so I'll just make a post on Facebook about how I'm doing all this dangerous stuff because I'm so sad and wait, why are people trying to get me to stop doing dangerous stuff? You told my mum? Oh my God!"
