DENVER — Mitt Romney called President Obama’s remarks to “60 Minutes” about the unrest in the Middle East “revealing,” saying that he “can’t imagine” calling the situation there “bumps in the road.” “I think the President’s comments on ’60 Minutes’ last night were quite revealing,” said Romney during a one-on-one interview with ABC News in which he launched into fierce critique of the President’s foreign policy decisions. “His indication that developments in the Middle East represent bumps in the road is a very different view than I have,” said Romney. “I can’t imagine saying something like the assassination of ambassadors is a bump in the road, when you look at the entire context, the assassination, the Muslim brotherhood president being elected in Egypt, 20,000 people killed in Syria, Iran close to becoming a nuclear nation. These are far from being bumps in the road.” President Obama was asked on “60 Minutes” last night if the events in the Middle East had given him any “pause” about his support for the governments that have come to power following the 2011 Arab Spring. Obama answered that it was the “right thing for us to do to align ourselves with democracy.” “But I was pretty certain and continue to be pretty certain that there are going to be bumps in the road, because you know in a lot of these places, the one organizing principle has been Islam,” said Obama. The president never specifically referred to the recent killing of U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens in Libya as a “bump in the road.” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said this morning that Obama was not minimizing the violence in the Middle East with his comments and called the criticism by Republicans “desperate.” But for Romney, Obama’s remark was another opportunity to criticize the president for his handling of foreign policy, which the Republican candidate says is only compounded by the fact that he will not meet with leaders from the Middle East during a trip to New York for the U.N. General Assembly. “We’re at the mercy events rather than shaping the events in the Middle East,” said Romney. “And the president doesn’t have time to actually spend time with leaders of these nations, particularly Bibi Netanyahu, I find that very troubling. And a suggestion that the course America is on is not the right course in the Middle East.”
the shit flinging begins, video in source (not youtube) http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/09/romney-says-obamas-bump-in-the-road-comment-is-revealing/
Romney is right. You can't really call these things "bumps in the road", but for different reasons than he would probably state.
I desperately want this guy to fuck off, I mean for god's sake. Tell us Romney, what is the right course for the middle east? Shall we bomb it more? That's totally been working for the last.. fuck, like eleven years.
Well, you can't honestly say that apology has worked.
Well, you can't honestly say that apology has worked.
You mean in the less than a month since it was issued? Obama is not magic.
I mean since the first one he gave after he became president. No Obama apology has worked. None
“We’re at the mercy events rather than shaping the events in the Middle East,” said Romney.
Wasn't the entire point of the Arab Spring the right to self determination? Even though we might see the Muslim Brotherhood as the incorrect choice, it was still their choice to make.
“And the president doesn’t have time to actually spend time with leaders of these nations, particularly Bibi Netanyahu,
You mean that warmonger? In some ways, although he had legitimate reasons not to spend time, I actually think it is for the better.
I find that very troubling. And a suggestion that the course America is on is not the right course in the Middle East.”
Well, I'm pretty sure things will wind up ending well in Libya, especially if the US doesn't do anything stupid. The Libyans are pretty happy with the Americans and the west now. In fact, looking at the polls, the one thing they could do to mess it up would to be interfering politically. They're happy for the help, but want to stand on their own feet to do it.
Can we stop calling Obama the apologist in chief? He is more like the drone using, illegal immigrant deporting, Osama killing, Manning imprisoning, Assange hunting, kill-list using, badass in chief. You can say he has gone too far in terms of killing lots of people, you can even call him a Constitution defying murderer like many RonPaulites would, but you cannot call him a weak apologist.
I fail to see how republicans or McCain could have handled the situation better.
In his own weird way, Obama turned Foreign Policy into his strong point. Nobody would have predicted that in 2008.
In his own weird way, Obama turned Foreign Policy into his strong point. Nobody would have predicted that in 2008.
He ran on foreign policy before the economy shit the bed.
Can we stop calling Obama the apologist in chief?
Uh, these:
drone using, illegal immigrant deporting, Manning imprisoning, Assange hunting, kill-list using
are hardly things I would describe as 'badass'.
You can say he has gone too far in terms of killing lots of people, you can even call him a Constitution defying murderer like many RonPaulites would, but you cannot call him a weak apologist.
I wouldn't call him that for the same reason a Libertarian might, but I think given the conviction I could certainly make that argument.
I am not saying those are good things. I am simply saying that he is not afraid of doing certain things, and that he should not be called an Apologist or not Forceful enough.
Republicans would call obama a wimp even if he marched right into pakistan and ripped osama's still beating heart out of his chest. [editline]24th September 2012[/editline] ignore the fucking character assassinations and focus on policy
We should interview the innocent people Obama drone bombed and the families Obama deported and have a slogan that says "Vote for Obama: he ain't afraid to do some fucked up shit for y'all"
I mean since the first one he gave after he became president. No Obama apology has worked. None
Please tell me, dear Glaber. How has he apologized? Or do you mean that mythical apology tour that never happened?
Please tell me, dear Glaber. How has he apologized? Or do you mean that mythical apology tour that never happened?
Yeah, if anything, he has not apologized for anything.
I think it's weird that apologies are considered a bad thing. I'd rather america say it fucked up than blaming it on other countries. [editline]24th September 2012[/editline] is it like if you apologize, the terrorists win and hitler comes back to life?
yes

I hate how every single action taken is given the complete opposite reaction by the other side. If Obama gave a speech how the Tea Party is completely right, and he'll change everything about the White House to appeal to only them, leading Republicans would complain about Obama siding with an out-of-touch group that has unrealistic demands.
Two opposing parties is what happens in any strong Presidential Government. France has a mostly functional Government and they have two major and opposing parties (The Republicans and Socialists)

Damn chickenhawks. If diplomacy fails, then war is an option. Also, what apology, there is no apology that was sent(I think).
Still not voting romney... ever. Before i was just sure he just wanted to murder or enslave minorities. Now i KNOW he wants 47% of you all dead and gone. Insane little man.
Still voting for Romney... forever. Before, I wasn't sure if he just wanted to make a better America and help people, but now I KNOW he wants to do all that, and more. Righteous man.
