This screams uncanny valley to me, for some reasons.
This screams uncanny valley to me, for some reasons.
The 30s were a big test bed for animation, since once Disney made Mickey Mouse popular, everyone got into it. The biggest competition for Disney was Fleischer, creator of Betty Boop and Popeye. [editline]20th April 2014[/editline] In fact, this Silly Symphonies was made for Disney Animators to attempt to draw and animate realistic Human movement for Snow White.
This screams uncanny valley to me, for some reasons.
Lots of old Warner Brother's animations did the same for me.
Looks like the guys at 5:50 came baked to work that day.

It's something that illicit a feeling of somewhat insecurity but you can't ascertain what it really is. This cartoon just looks that way to me. It's somewhat creepy to think that all animators who drew this are probably dead today, plus the messages in the animation. I don't know, I'm just fucked. I mean, it's the equivalent of watching a movie where the star died. Like, what you see is something unique, because he won't appear again in a way. Complicated feelings.
