Canada has cashed in on the Britain's property boom by selling its Mayfair embassy for £306milion - more than six times the value placed on it just 14 years ago. What a beautiful interior
I hope they don't demolish the place and rebuild from the ground up. Looks pretty swish enough for a high class property even in its current state, and not overgaudy in terms of how it looks either.
Sweet Christ that just screams British. All it's missing is pictures of the Queen and Union Jack's all over the place.
whoever designed that was great taste
One day, I'll live in a house like that.

They should relocate to the suburbs where the NK embassy is.

I would have bought it if I had £306,000,000 lying around somewhere.
Does Canada really need an embassy in the UK anyway?
Developers are planning £1bn luxury apartment complex on the site
Fucking waste, turn it into a hotel.
Fucking waste, turn it into a hotel.
Capitalism. It's all the rage to make crazy amounts of money with little to no morality.
Does Canada really need an embassy in the UK anyway?
Of course. Embassy's are incredibly useful for expatriates. For example, I'm a US citizen currently living in Chile. At the Chilean embassy I can get copies of my birth and marriage certificates, vote in election's, file paperwork, and so on.

They should just make the existing building into apartments. Shame to tear that down.

Theres another embassy in trafalgar square so its all good
I suppose, I just figured it might be different because Commonwealth.
It is. IIRC you can use other commonwealth countries embassies if your country doesn't have an embassy in that city or whatnot.
I suppose, I just figured it might be different because Commonwealth.
It's a High Commission though, not an embassy. But in practice it's the same thing really, just the name is different for the diplomatic missions between Commonwealth states iirc.
yeah you're right we should all become communism, we all know how well that worked out for russia right guys?
Firstly, Communism isn't the sole alternative to Capitalism. Secondly, if individual failures invalidated an entire theoretical system like that, we couldn't keep using Capitalism either.
yeah you're right we should all become communism, we all know how well that worked out for russia right guys?
Wooo false dichotomies.

This is good money that can be wasted on Jets to fight the Russians and Hockey arena's.
You don't need something extravagant about that. This is good money that can be wasted on Jets to fight the Russians and Hockey arena's.
The money is being used to revitalize Canada House.
Secondly, if individual failures invalidated an entire theoretical system like that, we couldn't keep using Capitalism either.
Communism has been a failure in every country it's ever been tried in anyways.
Communism has been a failure in every country it's ever been tried in anyways.
Arguably no country ever reached true communism however.
Arguably no country ever reached true communism however.
That's because it fails before they get there because true communism doesn't work.
Arguably no country ever reached true communism however.
Maybe it's because some of the fundamentals of the philosophy just don't work. Attempts just hit a brick wall and from then on it decays back into capitalism.
Great, now we can afford AN F-35!
