Hey everyone, it's been...erm...a long time since I've made a thread, mainly because I haven't been on FP regularly for quite a while and watching Good Eats has absorbed my life, but I decided it was high time because I wanted to enlighten you, and hopefully share my love of Reuben, a fucking awesome, but sadly dead band. It's retarded to try an genre-ify a band to one area and it's exceptionally hard with Reuben, their bassist stated that they're "just a rock band". They pretty much come out of the same post-hardcore, alternative rock, further gay sounding genre area that produced Million Dead, Hundred Reasons and Biffy Clyro. Well, a bit of background, James Lenman(guitar/piano/yelling/vocals) and Jon Pearce (bass/vocals) formed the band Angel with drummer Jason Wilcock, later replaced by Mark Lawton, they changed their name to Reuben after joining the label badmusic, Mark went on hiatus from the band and was temporarily replaced by Guy Davis, later deciding that Guy was a considerably better drummer and it was better for the band. Albums "Racecar is Racecar Backwards" Their first full length release was 2004's "Racecar is Racecar Backwards" which was met with...very little critical response, they're not a big band at this stage, but it spawned the popular singles "Freddy Kreuger" "Moving to Blackwater" "Very Fast Very Dangerous" It's considered a simpler album and of the 3 tends to not be a favourite with fans, but it has some of the bands strongest tracks, including the 7 minute epic rant "Return of the Jedi" and the semi-popular singles "A Kick in the Mouth" "Keep It To Yourself" http://youtube.com/watch?v=R2SXliPlwRo "In Nothing We Trust" Something of a rarity, mainly because the copies that have been sold are the only copies, this is considered to be the bands stongest outing, with the vastly different singles "Deadly Lethal Ninja Assassin" "Blood, Bunny, Larkhall" In Christmas 2007 the band released the obviously affirmative "Christmas is Awesome" but couldn't make #1 due to some sort of error, maybe this year, Killing in the Name set a precedent. After the release of the single "Cities on Fire" the band went on their indefinate hiatus, and are as of now, dead, with Jamie working on his illustration career and Jon and Guy in the band Freeze the Atlantic. Last year a collection of b-sides and rarities was released, titled "We Should Have Gone To University", guess hindsight is a powerful thing. Obviously they're not going to be for everyone, but I just felt like sharing with you a band that I very much appriciate.
I was thinking of making a Reuben thread... beat me to it! Best band you've never heard of. I missed their final tour, BUT I did get to see a technical final show ever at the westy when they all played on the same stage... but not really at the same time. What I love about Reuben is how many different genres they fit into, there are some plain mental songs, some powerful ones, some long drawn out proggy ones and some beautiful ones. I've played every album to death... and I'm still listening to them! FTA are pretty good too, hopefully gonna go see them soon!
I have friends who literally never stop going on about this band, all the time and they're always crying over how they split up. Myself, I don't think they're bad and quite happily listen to them from time to time. Only thing I don't like is all Reuben fans I know never shut up about how great they are. Like NEVER. Facebook home page is constantly half full of my friends masturbating to each other over Reuben and Blakfish (who I also think aren't bad). And then in real life the conversation gets to Reuben some way or another. On the other hand at least Reuben seem to get passionate fans

I'm sure it means a lot to Jamie, Jon and Guy, but to hear about it all the time from friends...must be trying. [editline]01:07PM[/editline] Oh, I know it seems odd to fans that I've picked the MTV friendly, slightly simpler singles, but I'm trying to make this as all inclusive as possible, oh, and Blood, Bunny, Larkhall. "YOUR 'WRONG' OR 'RIGHT'".
I was thinking of making a Reuben thread... beat me to it! Best band you've never heard of. I think they do well off the back of Jamie's creative control, I know Jon and Guy had input, but it's clear to see that Jamie rules the band. EDITING! I'd also like to add that if you're a drummer (such as myself) you'd benefit from giving Guy's drumming a good listen, I have yet to find a more dynamic, musical drummer, rather than a dick who just hits things and fills every 2 bars.
