• Sharpen your pitchforks: Battlefront III won't have classes
Star Wars: Battlefront has, up until now, been a series built on classes. Before entering combat, players would pick a faction and select from a series of characters classes, each complete with their own weapons and skills. According to recent reports however, DICE's upcoming series reboot will be doing away with that structure in favor of more free-form customization options. Originally featured in the pages of OXM, said reports have indicated that the new Battlefront will be replacing the series' previous class system with unlockable weapons and gear that players will be able to "freely" select prior to combat. Perhaps hoping to ease fears that Battlefront will just be a Star Wars re-skin of its previous games, DICE also confirmed that it will be moving away from Battlefield's five man squads and will instead use a unique "partners" system that will link two players together. The linked players will be able to use each other as spawn points, see one another on their respective HUDs and even share access to unlocked weaponry.
SOURCE: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/140752-DICE-Dropping-Squads-Classes-in-Star-Wars-Battlefront
Awesome!
So you'll be constructing your own class then? That's fine by me, been plenty of times playing Battlefront II I wished I could have had a different weapon particularly in maps where it's not really usefull.
bothan with a rocket launcher sounds p. sweet
WOW! Sound really cool
I thought this was revealed last month. Does 'sharpen your pitchforks' suggest that we should dislike this decision, or suggest that we should include pitchforks in our loadout?

i liked the bigger squad based combat of battlefront though, jumping out of dropships with your mates screaming on vent was always fun
Free form classes sounds cool, two man squads not so much.

As for constructing your own class, it'll be sweet. Only worry I have is that there will only be so many setups that works well, with every other being underwhelming.
as long as this game has a hoth level that lets me dress as a rebel pilot and drop AT-ATs with a cable then shit i'm gonna be buying it at least three times i wonder if you can still play as jedis and siths? i haven't heard anything about that
I guess it's mostly "sharpen your pitchworks" in the manner they're not being 100% faithful to the original, though that might just be for the better. We'll see one the game is done.
We've known this for about a month. I'll wait until I see full gameplay before damning the game and this addition permanently but I don't care for this change from what I've heard(along with most of the changes) but they really should have just called this Star Wars: Battlefied or anything else as opposed to trying ride off of Battlefront nostalgia. What I don't get is that if they are making these changes, why they're doing them on such a small scale. If you're going to have squads, then do squads as opposed to add this pair thing. If you don't want to have the squad comparison then don't do it in the first place.
Just dont preorder it, wait for the gameplay videos.
Fine by me, Renegade Squadron didn't have a class based system and that game was okay in the customization department.
The best addition would be a pilot suit that occuies the primary gun slot. If you don't have the pilot suit equipped, air-vehicles are locked, so bullshit snipers don't waste them and be useless.
The no classes option i sort of like but will have to see how it works in full before i decide the 5 man squad down to 2 man though is stupid.......i wanted to be with all my mates in it, not just 1.
But how will this affect droids? I.e. can a droideka use a sniper?
The Clone Wars campaign will not be a part of the game.
Purely speculation, i've got a feeling that you have to play +370 hours to get the rocket launcher. Or just drop a one time deposit of $23,- to get the gun right now! Let's hope not.
Dropping classes seems to be exactly what DICEs games need. Battlefield always had that specific problem where you always seem to pick to spawn as the wrong class no matter what. Spawn as assault? Enemy tanks up the wazoo. Spawn as engineer? Not a single support guy in sight to give you ammo. Then again, I think that now you're just going to get shafted because you picked the wrong loadout, though. I guess you can't fix that without turning everyone into a one man army, which would be even worse. The Squad thing I don't mind as much either. I play with a squad full of mates as well, but I don't think not being able to spawn on everyone will be a huge downside. In fact, it might make the game more fun because now you wont get clown car bullshit where a squad of enemies keep crawling out of eachothers ass over and over. The partner system sounds interesting, but I'd have to see what they'll do with it first.
Pretty neat in my opinion. Most certainly a good way of, stepping out of that battlefield stigma. I'd personally prefer more than two people in a team. However with the features that come with the "partner" system, I understand.
It's literally going to be battlefield with a star wars skin
Fine by me!
It's literally going to be battlefield with a star wars skin
Saying that proves you've really not been reading up on what Battlefront 3's gameplay will actually be like.
So you'll be constructing your own class then? That's fine by me, been plenty of times playing Battlefront II I wished I could have had a different weapon particularly in maps where it's not really usefull.
I'm a bit worried cause apparently it's a lot like battlefield, and there's been some dumb shit done there such as tiny maps and Battle packs.
Why are squads nerfed? What's wrong with 4? How is 2 better?
Just dont preorder it, wait for the gameplay videos.
Pretty much this. Preordering rarely benefited the consumer in the days when the only option was physical copies, and nowadays there's even less reason.
I get the feeling they're trying there hardest to not have people say "well its just Battlefield but with a star wars skin pack" when it comes out but at the same time alot of aspects of Battlefield i actually do want to see in the game......big multiplayer vehicle battles and certainly 64 player battles are two of those things!
It's literally going to be battlefield with a star wars skin
I'd still buy it
I'd still buy it
Tbh with the track record of EA I'd recommend waiting a week or two after its out.
