• Seen a spooky ghost? Scientist believe ghost sightings may be caused by mould
A team of Clarkson University researchers is studying the possible links between reported hauntings and indoor air quality. Associate Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering Shane Rogers said human experiences reported in many hauntings are similar to mental or neurological symptoms reported by some individuals exposed to toxic molds. It is known that some fungi, such as rye ergot fungus, may cause severe psychosis in humans. The links between exposure to toxic indoor molds and psychological effects in people are not well established, however, Rogers said. Notably, many hauntings are associated with structures that are prime environments to harbor molds or other indoor air quality problems. "Hauntings are very widely reported phenomena that are not well-researched," he said. "They are often reported in older-built structures that may also suffer poor air quality. Similarly, some people have reported depression, anxiety and other effects from exposure to biological pollutants in indoor air. We are trying to determine whether some reported hauntings may be linked to specific pollutants found in indoor air." Rogers is working with a group of undergraduate students to measure air quality in several reportedly haunted places around northern New York state. The team will gather data at several locations throughout the spring and summer and will publish their results at the end of the study
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/03/150331121251.htm
rye ergot fungus
We all know what this means.
We all know what this means.
getting high off sweet mold?
Hey cool I just committed to Clarkson!
obviously its fungus from rotted rye bread, come on this is basic stuff
Yes but what he means is that apparently LSD was and can be derived from this mold. And not that everyone here needs this, but for those who do here you go. http://www.chm.bris.ac.uk/motm/lsd/lsd.htm
What of ghosts that are less spooky? (Interesting and related read)

But yeah this is pretty cool, I remember they were looking into infrasound as a possible cause of haunting type stuff like feelings of depression, malaise and the like with no explanation.
This would explain why so many ghosts appear in abandoned buildings. Which, you know, is pretty dumb since what kind of ghost would want to haunt an abandoned building?
This would explain why so many ghosts appear in abandoned buildings. Which, you know, is pretty dumb since what kind of ghost would want to haunt an abandoned building?
If one is to believe the lore, ghosts are bound to places and can't leave.
Kind of like people who see a speck of dust or an "orb" in their picture and think that ghosts are all through it. Check out this ghost, guys.
Not sure how this is related to inhaling fungi
Not sure how this is related to inhaling fungi
inhaling a specific fungi = ghost sightings "aura" on photograph = ghost sightings they are related under this topic. [editline]5th April 2015[/editline] the real question is do people taking photos in spooky places think the orbs are ghosts because they've been exposed to ergot and are in a delirium or do they not have an excuse :v:
If one is to believe the lore, ghosts are bound to places and can't leave.
ghosts don't have any proper lore, it's 100% headcanon and to the orb thing, my mom has fun with that all the time and it's doofy. What's better is she was given a pretty awful old 'how to photograph orbs' book and half of the pictures are blatantly the dude's camera strap, and you can see how fucking done his family members are all the time in the example photos
ghosts don't have any proper lore, it's 100% headcanon
True but the more popular "headcanon" is that they can't leave the place they're stuck in.
If one is to believe the lore, ghosts are bound to places and can't leave.
Like the spores of the fungi infesting the building, mayhap? Considering that most old houses had a great deal of wood involved, an infestation of hallucinogenic fungi with spores in the air would probably explain away a lot of ghost house stories.
Doesn't explain sightings in areas with good air quality. There's quite a few sightings in open fields, in relatively new buildings, in buildings that have been in use regularly and are well maintained, in hotels where there's only one room in a building of hundreds that has frequent sightings, etc. More research is to be done!
Rye ergot fungus? Say that three times in a mirror at midnight then you'll see some ghosts.
Wasn't it discovered that rye ergot exposure caused the Salem Witch Trials?
This whole thing with paranormal existance is real interesting to me, I really hope that science one day can explain what it really is.
Wasn't it discovered that rye ergot exposure caused the Salem Witch Trials?
No it was just speculation.
I saw two ghosts fight over how to make the perfect tuna sandwich after smoking weed. It was pretty funny.
It is known that some fungi, such as rye ergot fungus, may cause severe psychosis in humans.
that explains why all the tv shows that 'hunt ghosts' are always incredibly loony
I saw two ghosts fight over how to make the perfect tuna sandwich after smoking weed. It was pretty funny.
you might want to get your weed checked
This whole thing with paranormal existance is real interesting to me, I really hope that science one day can explain what it really is.
If any of it turns out to be legit, my money's on it being sufficiently-advanced technology, falling in line with Clarke's Third Law. Stuff like psychic powers and bona-fide ghosts would probably turn out to be various different kinds of highly-advanced specialized nanomachines.
My money's on good old vivid human imagination.
Hence why I said "legit" and not "believed to be real by non-scientific types". Though admittedly I shoulda clarified it by saying "confirmed as legit by modern mainstream science".
that explains why all the tv shows that 'hunt ghosts' are always incredibly loony
now, watch these shows while high off the mould for added effect
now, watch these shows while high off the mould for added effect
dark room, lightning, blinds down, windows up, in the middle of the woods, cannabis incense for added paranoia, and rye mold the definitive horror experiance
everyone in ghost hunting shows are loony, and the shows themselves just ooze crazy
butterfingers, sorry
This whole thing with paranormal existance is real interesting to me, I really hope that science one day can explain what it really is.
Uh, I'm afraid the answer's been found. You're not going to like it. [editline]5th April 2015[/editline]
I saw two ghosts fight over how to make the perfect tuna sandwich after smoking weed. This is really weird. I started listening to a random episode of Dan Carlin's Hardcore History and he talked about the fungus's possible link to sightings of God during the reformation. Literally a minute before I checked this thread.
