The semi-naked body of a teenage girl who was allegedly humiliated by village elders for protesting against her father's harassment has been found near a railway track in eastern India. Police suspect the 15-year-old girl in West Bengal was raped and murdered. Her family said she was made to spit on the ground and lick it up - an act considered a grave form of humiliation. Unofficial courts in India's villages often sanction punishment of residents deemed to have violated local codes. Scrutiny of sexual violence in India has grown since the 2012 gang rape and murder of a student on a Delhi bus. The government tightened laws on sexual violence last year after widespread protests following the attack, but violence and discrimination against women remain deeply entrenched. The BBC's Amitabha Bhattasali in Calcutta says the girl's body was found near a railway track in the state's Jalpaiguri district on Tuesday - a day after a village court had summoned her and her farmer father to settle a dispute over a tractor. Her family members told the police that the elders "threatened the girl with dire consequences" when she protested against the "harassment of her father" by the village court.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-29041654
she was made to spit on the ground and lick it up
- snip, fine - Just, wow. I seriously wonder how the fuck do people even come up with shit like that. [editline]asd[/editline] I did not imply it's a lie. I was talking about the act itself... (User was banned for this post ("image macro" - Orkel))

The shit that people complain about over here toward equality, and justice, would be laughed at by what people are trying to do over there. Absolutely disgusting.
"Village elders" shouldn't be a thing. Just because you're old doesn't mean you know best. In fact, as seen here, it's quite the opposite.

It's not right to trust the time told by a broken clock, after all. Also this kind of unfair treatment is proof that, even in this our 21st century, barbarism runs rampant.
That's not the reason why people rated your post dumb, friend.
I find the picture fitting for my exact reaction, if that was the problem.
Well the thing is we don't really appreciate these kinds of, well, image macros around here. Other than in places like LMAO Pics, we don't really use that kind of stuff in our day-to-day discussions.
Man India is fucked up, or its lower half.

I really do not respect a large majority of Indians, even a lot of the ones that come to America for college noticeably demean and look down on women in our classes. Leaving them out of discussions, rolling their eyes when they speak up in class, or just generally being fucking creepy by looking at them. I know not all Indians are like that, I have some good friends who are some of the nicest and respectful people I know (They're also American), but that culture they got going over there SUCKS.

It isn't so much a "culture" as it is a shitty attitude that keeps getting reinforced by the latest Bollywood masala flicks, because many people here seem to think that cinema and real life are the same thing. Case in point: one idiot once asked me in which country you could find Mordor. I'm not joking. This said, our country itself is largely of a conservative and patriarchal mindset, so they try to perpetuate such behavior mainly because 'if it worked for us, it should work for our kids too.' Don't start with trying to question the words of elders or people in authority.
