Starting My Own Clothing Brand in the UK V2: Veil Edition

Hi again Facepunch, for those of you who don't know this thread please see the previous thread over here:
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1280704
Budget has increased to £14,000, up from £10,000
A couple of weeks have passed since I made the previous thread and not much has changed, I've found myself going backwards rather than forwards.
We got the name Veil last time, I love it and I think it has potential. The problem I have is that the URL www.veil.com has obviously been land grabbed by some dick and is for sale for an extortionate amount of money.
I mentioned a while back that we had a designer onboard, we had several meetings and after the second it became clear he wasn't the right guy for the job.
I'm looking for someone young, who is in sync with what I'm trying to achieve with our brand to contribute to our design work. There is money involved of course.
Please link your friends to this thread, and if you know any designers please link them to here as well. Anybody who contributes significant time and effort in helping me will of course be rewarded.
odd, i was just thinking about this today

You're gunna want a .co.uk domain anyway considering you're selling in the UK and not the USA.
Go for veildesigns or something if the .co.uk domain is parked.

I've not forgotten about you coming up with the name by the way and I'll be in touch in due course to discuss your payment :)
I really ideally want something a bit more generic, veildesigns is very focused towards the clothing side. I'm planning on eventually branching the whole brand out into something much bigger. I'm trying to keep the bigger picture in mind if you see what I'm saying.
"designs" is incredibly generic and doesn't directly mean clothing at all

Sorry, I know, but if say example I wanted to go into events. It's kinda more focused on the design side. Just Veil on it's own would have been perfect but that's not possible I guess.
I have a friend who wants to get started in the design business, I don't know much about how good things look but she seems pretty good with photoshop and is interested. How are you going to select your new designer & how can she get in touch?

The person would need to have quite exceptional ability as it's design work which would ultimately end up on clothing. People can contact me on here or via email, which I will give out via PM only.

After weeks of trying to find an email I've finally managed to sign up Esther Smith for our first brand video. Beautiful young actress who was just recently in the UK version of Skins on Channel 4. So excited for this right now.

Do you actually have any clothes to market right now? It seems like you're doing too much at once. Just focus on getting started up and actually have some clothing to sell rather than already focusing on promotional content.
you're also going to want at least 2 designers, one for the actual products and one for the website - designers who are proficient at websites and most other types of design are few and far between. if you're lucky the website designer will be able to code it and set up your databases and all of that e-commerce stuff, otherwise you're going to need a programmer too.
and then there's PR, marketing and all of that, but i guess you have that under your own belt. who's manufacturing these products?

Don't worry it's all in hand, I just saw she was up and coming and loved her in Skins. I thought she was perfect for when we ever actually do make a video. So I've been keen to see if she would be interested for a while now. I spoke with her on the phone earlier and she really loved the idea.
It would be a bit pointless to make a video before I have anything to sell! :)

I've got some people lined up who are based in London who are keen to work with me on the fashion design side of things. Talented graduates, which is kind of what I was aiming for because I think they bring a great, fresh perspective to things. Yves Saint Laurent was a bit out of my budget unfortunately haha.
I spoke about the website a bit in the previous thread, I was thinking about basing the website on Wordpress to save on costs for now, but obviously a heavily customised template.
I appreciate some people may think that's a bit of a dumb idea, but I can't afford to spend 4 grand getting a full on website made by an agency right now.
Just get a Bigcartel site for now and customise it a bit. I wouldn't worry about getting a proper website until your business starts making money.

that's exactly what my boss said when he hired me :D

I'm not worried about paying for hosting and getting something within the £5-600 range sorted. I'd quite like to have a proper blog etc, and it gives me a lot more freedom to play around.

ve.il would be good for shortlinks
Ok I've just registered ve.il anyway.
just use that one as your main domain, it's perfect.
[editline]11th August 2013[/editline]
wearveil.co.uk sounds like it could be targeted by some radical nationalists thinking you're promoting the use of muslim veils for women in the UK :v:
Maybe you should consider making a thread in the web development section, at the very least from a quick brain storm I feel like making a basic clothing website wouldn't present a great amount of difficulty to any web developer with a little relevant experience and I'm sure you'd be able to find a budding developer or student suitable for the task who would do it purely for the experience and the chances at putting it on a CV.
I'd actually offer to do it myself but I'm working full time in web development right now and working on a website for my final year uni project in my spare time
Glad to see this thread come back, I'm pretty interested to see how this goes. And well done for getting some stuff sorted and being proactive in registering the domain, etc. I think what holds a lot of people back in business is taking that leap into making things happen.
Also I think I mentioned this in the last thread, but as I'm training towards becoming a chartered accountant, give me a shout if you have any questions regarding accounts/finances.
i really hope all goes well for you and this idea. businesses are risky ventures, and i would love to see some success come your way. when your line actually is up and running i'd be happy to buy a shirt or two!
Just realised I registered .co.il (I was tired, doh), doesn't seem like you can get just ve.il on it's own. Has to either be .org.il or .co.il
Welp, guess you'll just have to change the name from Veil to Vecoil
