Note: This is not a creepypasta. You must listen to the radio recordings to fully appreciate the story. The explanation below is just a simple overview written by me.

Mel's Hole is an urban legend that tells about a strange, seemingly bottomless pit that has paranormal properties.
It all started in 1997, when Mel Waters, a resident of Ellensburg, Washington appeared in Art Bell's radio show Coast to Coast AM, which focuses on conspiracy theories and paranormal.
Mel explained that in Manastash Ridge where he lived, there has always been a strange hole near his property where people have always been tossing their discarded items, garbage and even dead animals throughout the decades and it has never filled up.
The hole is apparently ancient and it has always been there ever since before the first residents started to live around the area. So, one time, when throwing a refridgerator into the hole, Mel never heard it hit the bottom.
Curious of how deep the hole is, Mel started to spool out fishing line with a one-pound weight in the end into the hole and it never hit the bottom. Obsessed, Mel started to lower down more and more fishing line, when eventually, the depth added up to roughly 15 miles (24 kilometers) and still no bottom.
Mel also told a story of a local hunter, who threw the remains of his deceased dog into the hole. Later, the man saw the exact same dog with the same collar and tag out while hunting and attempted to call it, but it appeared to belong to another hunter. He also said that all the other dogs are absolutely terrified of the hole and refuse to go near it.
The weirdest thing according to Mel, is that one night, he saw black "light" coming out of the hole. "A solid beam that was blacker than black" in Mel's own words. This led Mel to believe that it might be tied to somesort of cosmological events, including unspecified alignments of the moon.
Soon after the first show, Mel reached out to Art Bell again and told him in the show that there were government personnel around his property that wouldn't let him go to his house. Aggrevated, Mel demanded to be let into his home, but he was then threatened and told "It would be very easy for us to find something illegal in your apartment, if you catch my drift." Mel then left his property and never returned.
After the first two shows, Mel appeared again in Art Bell's Coast to Coast AM in 2002, where he covered the aftermath of the events in Ellensburg hole and tells about a new hole in Nevada with paranormal properties. This is when things start to get crazy.
Whether hoax or not, the story about Mel's Hole has fascinated people throughout the years and countless of people have gone to search for it, but never found anything. Later investigation also reveals that no person by the name of Mel Waters has been listed as a resident of Ellensburg.
If you have never the radio shows, get ready for a one wild ride. It really is one of the best and most fascinating stories I've ever heard.

Sadly, no. Although I'm sure it would've been an interesting read aswell.
Well, now I know where I can hide the body now...
No Parole for you.
Mel's hole...
"Guys, I have a great new idea for a movie that stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mel Gibson..."
I love coast to coast.
Interesting.
There's a similar story about an actual drill hole in Russia which people began rumors that the hole drilled right into hell.
sounds like a gay night club
Coming from an expert of gay night clubs :v:
This is just an old creepypasta.

there's a wikipedia article on it
Sounds like a Stephen King novel.
This is just an old creepypasta.
Except that it's not. It's more of a radio drama. You're supposed to listen to the radio shows.
Creepypasta is directed to the creepypasta thread.
Sounds like bullshit.
Reminds me of that one thing that I think still gets updated every now and then with pictures of a guy climbing through a hole and finding shit. Can't remember the name though
This is rather interesting.
Reminds me of that one thing that I think still gets updated every now and then with pictures of a guy climbing through a hole and finding shit. Can't remember the name though

Sounds like bullshit.
That might be, but it's a very interesting listen nonetheless. If you're a fan of paranormal stories or urban legends and myths, you'll love this.
He's found planet Earth's /dev/null
I remember hearing about this a couple years ago. Ellensburg is only a county or two over from where I live, maybe I could go searching for it.
Since then people have checked county records for someone with the name that matches mel but was never found. It is one of those tales on coast to coast that can't really be proved or disproved.
There's a similar story about an actual drill hole in Russia which people began rumors that the hole drilled right into hell.
Yeah, I heard of that. When they got deep enough, they heard a constant noise that sounded like millions of people screaming, and despite being atheists (This was the USSR), they stopped any drilling and just got the fuck out. Or something like that. Does anyone have a source on this?
Everything on Coast to Coast is purely fictional entertainment, if you believe any of it is fact you are loopy.
Yeah, it's the famous "Well to Hell" hoax. There's a wikipedia article of it here.
Also, here's the sound clip which they supposedly recorded at the drill site:

A word of warning though, it's really disturbing.

lol thats not disturbing, those sounds were lifted right out of a 70s b-movie
Really?! You mean, they're not actual sounds from hell after all?
:downs:
I couldn't help but laugh a little as the guy ask Mel to put his hand on the bible.
