Some of the works were declared as degenerate by the Nazis, while others were stolen from or forcibly sold for a pittance by Jewish art collectors. If confirmed, it would be one of the largest recoveries of looted art. Investigators put the value of the works at about one billion euros (£846m; $1.35bn), Focus said.
The Nazis detested Picasso, whose artwork Guernica depicted a German bombing during the Spanish Civil War [editline]3rd November 2013[/editline] Here's another source.
I wonder what else the Nazi's still have hidden somewhere. There was that mine that was found a little after/just at the end of WW2. And then awhile later, some MPs found that it had tons and tons of bullion and art.
At least they didn't burn it.
Did they ever find The Fallen Madonna with the big boobies?
I always found it interesting that after 70 years we're still finding caches of relics and art like this.
Did they ever find The Fallen Madonna with the big boobies?
Allo allo
That's wonderful. I'd love to see what lost artworks are in that collection. Hope they get that covered soon.
Did they ever find The Fallen Madonna with the big boobies?
Nope. They also didn't find the Van Gogh with the big daisies.
Allo allo
Good Moaning
The Nazis detested Picasso, whose artwork Guernica depicted a German bombing during the Spanish Civil War
Yep that was my first guess
At least they didn't burn it.
They were probably smart enough to know the art was worth something to someone and they could sell it to fund the German war machine, like they did with other things.
Payday 2 dlc heist confirmed
How the fuck did BJ Blazkowicz not find this art when he found a ton of other stuff in Nazi castles? :v: but it's always interesting to find caches like this IRL - once history is lost, it's gone for good.

Reminds me of that one Black Lagoon arc...
At least they didn't burn it.
Hitler was an art collector and "encouraged" his highest ranked officers to also be.
Hitler was an art collector and "encouraged" his highest ranked officers to also be.
So essentially he took the art and gave it to his officers as awkward Christmas and Birthday gifts? "Here have zis Van Gogh! I took over ze Netherlands just so I could get it for you!"
