Ma'Lik Richmond, one of two teens convicted in the rape of a 16-year-old girl in Steubenville, is back on the roster of the Steubenville Big Red football team.
Richmond was found delinquent of raping a 16-year-old girl in March 2013, and must register as a Tier II sex offender every 180 days for 20 years.
Richmond was released from an Ohio Juvenile Detention Center on January 6, 2014, and in June of this year, the 7th District Court of Appeals upheld his sexual offender classification. Richmond and his attorney had originally fought to have that sex offender classification dropped, but the Court of Appeals felt otherwise. Judge Thomas Lipps had ruled earlier that his sentence was to be contingent on behavior and rehabilitation while serving. Trent Mays, also convicted in the case, must also register as a Tier II sex offender upon his release.
When reached for comment, Jefferson County Chief Probation Officer Fred Abdalla Jr. said, "There's no law against it that states he can't play. There's no OHSA rules that they'd be violating, then I think the boy should be allowed to play. Malik Richmond has done everything the court has asked him since he's been sentenced."
Stay classy Steubenville Big Reds.

It's legal!
It's just not something people are very pleased with.
Not surprised about this especially since the school tried to cover it up.

Wonder what the MSDS for a rapist would look like.
Yeah, good luck with the nickname "The Steubenville Rapist."

It's the worst justification they could have used, say how they're trying to rehabilitate him, help him make amends for what he did, etc. not just "Well it's not illegal!"

The sad thing is "hey it's legal and he's good at football" is probably the actual reason, and as much as I normally admire honesty, having that line of thinking, and being so secure in it that you're willing to admit it to a newscaster, is just fucked up.
Although the reporter in the video did try to bring up rehabilitation and all that.
We're talking about one of the shitheads who dragged a drunk girl from parties to parties, raping her with friends, I don't even understand why he's been only 2 years in jail.

American sport culture. Worst one out there.
I hope this team loses every game, I hope they are booed every time they get on the field, I hope the perp's tires are slashed and he is harassed until they disband the team entirely, or remove him from the team.
Animals like these deserve 20 years, minimum, to understand what it means to be a functioning member of society. Until then, the only sight they should see is iron bars.
God! And if this was a guy, he would've gone down for 15 yea-.... Wait a minute...

I mean if they don't win a game I will not care, but the innocent should not be lumped with the rapists

Edited, I misphrased
This is fucking disgusting. Imagine how that poor girl must feel. I would be shaking with rage.
The 2 years sentence was a fuckin' joke, and now this?
God! And if this was a guy, he would've gone down for 15 yea-.... Wait a minute...
They were tried as Juveniles, and one of them got the longest that they could be sentenced as juveniles. Not that I don't think 2 years is a pathetically low sentence for something like this.
American sport culture.
I definitely have to agree, growing up in a town that worshipped american football.
Sports people are the absolute worst. I avoid anyone related to sports.
I mean, it's bad enough that sports culture perpetuates homophobia and racism. But now they are protecting rapists.
sickening.
I highly doubt any college would recruit this kid, regardless of his skill they'd be known as "That College who helped a Rapist become famous."
He's probably not going far if he's listed as a sex offender.
It's unbelievable how light of a sentence those two assholes got, barely any jailtime and they won't even have to register as sex offenders for life

Sports star and the school tried to cover it up. Doesn't apply to the stereotype.
well thats just a lord of horseshit. but at least we got this:
Richmond was found delinquent of raping a 16-year-old girl in March 2013, and must register as a Tier II sex offender every 180 days for 20 years.
should be a little longer though

I didn't even know there was a tier list for rape offenses.
I didn't even know there was a tier list for rape offenses.
There is a tier list for sex offenders, it's just that to almost everyone except the law books, you're just a fucking disgusting sex offender piece of shit. Putting "tier II sex offender" on a resume isn't going to land you a job just the same as listing "tier I sex offender."
If its Highschool, he was probably released when he hit 18.
There are very few exceptions that keep teenagers in the penal system after 18. His record has also be expunged of all previous crimes, dunno if felonies are on that list.

they could and should have tried them as adults but lolsports and shitty corruption in schools and justice system

Nope. He's required to register as a sex offender for the next 20 years, obviously it wasn't expunged from his record.

there are times when the sex offender registry does more harm than good eg getting put on there for public urination
this is one of the times when it has been done as right as it can be

Welp, he's fucked anyway. Most employers take one look at that and pretty much say no.
they could and should have tried them as adults but lolsports and shitty corruption in schools and justice system
Except they were both 16 when this happened and the Age to be tried as an adult is 18 in Ohio. Although since rape is a felony, idk.
