Didn't see a thread about this so why not lol.
The USA is not known for high speed rail but has made some of the heaviest freight trains ever. Here are some images of the locomotives that pull trains over a mile long through mountains and across country.
These are the most powerful land vehicles in the world.
Not limited to the US.
Worlds biggest: DD40AX -- The DD40AX units weighed 8 * 35 or 280 tons, since builders like to keep axle load up as high as possible to increase tractive effort. Max tractive effort is expressed as a percentage, as in the percentage of a locomotive's weight on drivers that can be applied to traction. On AC locos it's about 35%, so max tractive is about 150,000 lbs. On the DD40AX, adhesion was closer to 20%, so max tractive effort was only about 120,000 lbs.

BNSF: Montana. some of the best scenery of America can be seen by riding the rails.. If your fortunate to know someone who works for the railroad.

Amtrak Genesis series, New Orleans, Louisiana. This locomotive replaces the F40 series in the 90's. It is rumored the US government has bought the old F40's and phase 1 and 2 coaches for prisoner transport. AKA FEMA trains, but this is an unconfirmed rumor.

SD40-2: Very popular switching and line locomotive in the US, I actually drove a pair of these in Louisiana moving cars onto a siding for a chemical company.

Don't bother trying to argue otherwise because I will crush you.
European trains are the best for high speed passenger service. I won't argue there. and most are electric.
Yeah the only diesel trains I posted are numbers 3, 4 and 9
Trains are beast.

These were introduced to the Melbourne rail network in the mid 1970's. They were sold off and then bought back by the state government after the increased demand for public transport during the 2006 Commonwealth Games caused a shortage of trains. They were refurbished in late 2007. There are only 6 of these left on the Melbourne network.
