• French cleaning goods company rolls out cleaning products named similarly to a gas chamber agent
French cleaning and hygiene company IPC-Sa has recalled a line of products named Cyclone B after severe backlash from European Jewish organizations. Cyclone B sounds similar to Zyklon B, the deadly chemical used by the Nazis to kill thousands of Jews during the Holocaust.
Source: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/174724#.Up1HGcREOPk
I'm pretty sure that 'zyklon' means 'cyclone' in German, so this is literally named after Zyklon B, just translated to English.
staff of the European Parliament, who ordered the staff to stop using the product soon after the news broke.
Was this seriously necessary and worth freaking out over?
Was this seriously necessary and worth freaking out over?
seems silly but yea it's incredibly insensitive and flippant.
For a second I forgot 'gift' in German is 'poison' and was wondering why they'd use party gas to euthanize people.

Could it be just a coincidence or is there actual proof it was named after the holocaust? Because IMO "Cyclone B" just sounds like a catchy name to me.
Could it be just a coincidence or is there actual proof it was named after the holocaust? Because IMO "Cyclone B" just sounds like a catchy name to me.
Cyc is pronounced Zyk in German
Could it be just a coincidence or is there actual proof it was named after the holocaust? Because IMO "Cyclone B" just sounds like a catchy name to me.
It's impossible to say whether it was actually named after it or not. Most likely, a bunch of higher ups just didn't do their research. But that doesn't change the fact that "Cyclone B" is literally the name of the most widely used poison gas in the Holocaust (Zyklon is German for Cyclone). I bet these guys are learning rather quickly that it pays to Google any potential names before adopting them.
Cyclon B Kills 99% of Jerms guarantied
Are you kidding me, people bitch and moan about anything. May as well rename every other fucking product that was used during that war..
Dyson are always raving about their Cyclone technology
Are you kidding me, people bitch and moan about anything. May as well rename every other fucking product that was used during that war..
the only people who are bitching and moaning in this thread are people like you let that sink in for a minute
Reminds me of that one German company that wanted to trademark the name "Zyklon" to market their line of gas ovens. Siemens, I think it was.
the only people who are bitching and moaning in this thread are people like you let that sink in for a minute

severe backlash from European Jewish organizations
Am i? Did you even read the article?. If you think i was addressing people in the thread, i wasn't. I was making a general statement after reading the article, which you clearly have not been paying attention too. I'm sorry you have a lack of reading comprehension and can't separate the difference. Let that sink in for a minute. I think it is a utter joke that people can't separate or learn the difference between a cleaning product and a deadly gas. These jewish organizations must really flip a bitch when they see VW's rolling around.
"in this thread" "in this thread" "in this thread" I was addressing the people in this thread. The buttmad whining cry babies. like u (User was banned for this post ("Flaming & shitposting" - MaxOfS2D))
"in this thread" "in this thread" "in this thread" I was addressing the people in this thread. The buttmad whining cry babies. like u
Oh jeez, here we go. I don't think anyone is getting mad here but you. I simply made a statement and you responded with something totally irrelevant. Stop posting.
staff of the European Parliament, who ordered the staff to stop using the product soon after the news broke.
After the ruling the EU parliament also ordered that the automotive companies Porsche and Volkswagen change their names to be less associated with Nazi Germany, and that the letter "S" now has to be at least four letters away from another "S", as to avoid the two pairing up and potentially making a word racist and offensive.
I was addressing the people in this thread. The buttmad whining cry babies. like u
I really don't see any of that. People are just pointing out the silliness of Jewish organizations freaking out over this.
I really don't see any of that. People are just pointing out the silliness of Jewish organizations freaking out over this.
aren't there still holocaust survivors alive? it might be a bit insensitive to them. also it makes light of the holocaust, which is damn near illegal in germany. making light of a genocide isn't really that awesome anyways, especially when it's uncreative or accidental. this case is either the former or the latter.

The cleaner isn't called "Hygienic Hitler Wash" or "Gestapo Drain Purge". It's not like Zyklon B was used exclusively in the holocaust to begin with; it was a pesticide before it was put to use to execute people.
Cyclon B Kills 99% of Jerms guarantied
umm hi im a fungus spore and i find this very offensive to my people mods
because zyklon b is famous for its role in the holocaust. ~1.2 million people were murdered by the chemical. it's not famous as a pesticide, it's famous as an instrument of genocide. if the chemical hadn't been used, hardly anyone would even know wtf zyklon b was today.
sure but forcing a company to change the name of their product because the current name sounds similar to a chemical used in the holocaust? You don't find that ridiculous in the slightest?
Zyklon B was also rat poison Oversensitivity.
Was this seriously necessary and worth freaking out over?
if you offend a jewish person you're literally hitler
sure but forcing a company to change the name of their product because the current name sounds similar to a chemical used in the holocaust? You don't find that ridiculous in the slightest?
idk depends on how many people were complaining. if no one gave a shit then yea it's ridiculous, but if people were in a total uproar over the product, expecting a name change is quite reasonable. [editline]3rd December 2013[/editline] if a product's name is causing harm, then you could make the claim that the name should be changed. a product doesn't lose effectiveness through a name change. a product is not a piece of art that loses meaning when the name is changed. it's just a product. companies shouldn't be allowed to name their products whatever they want if it hurts the public.
seems silly but yea it's incredibly insensitive and flippant.
Insensitive and flippant would be naming your product after something like this intentionally to cause shit, or looking at the backlash and going, "Oh pshaw, like we give a fuck."
