Share 'em round A Rock anthem is a powerful, celebratory rock song with arena-rock sound often with lyrics celebrating rock music itself and simple sing-a-long choruses, chants, or hooks. Australia has a lot of classic Rock anthems which nearly everybody knows by the time they are 18 (and if they don't, they will know pretty soon after, since every pub band has the same 30 songs on their set list). Some artists in Australia that people might know of are AC/DC, Skyhooks, Cold Chisel (Jimmy Barnes), Choir Boys and John Farnham (despite not actually being rock). I thought I'd share some great classics here. Comment on them, share your own Rock classics. Here is an Aussie classic - Khe Sanh by Cold Chisel (Barnsey) It's about an Aussie veterans time in vietnam and return to Australia Great song. Play this at a BBQ in Australia, and you'll have every bogan for 5kms singing along. Here is another Aussie classic - Run to Paradise by the Choir Boys So, what are some classic rock anthems from where you are from? I'm guessing Springsteen has a few.

You forgot the 1950s that's where this all came into play.
Johnny B Goode.

3 pretty well known examples. The "yeah" in Won't Get Fooled Again is the single greatest scream on this planet Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again Van Halen - Jump
I disagree as I believe that it just doesn't posess the same character "Where the streets have no name" has. The guitars, the bass , percussion and vocals produce a song that is truly unique and the lyrics "I want to run/I want to hide/I want to tear down these walls/That hold me inside" truly communicates how many people felt during a time where there was great tension as the Cold War was still on and the Soviet Union was beggining to crumble. Seeing as the actual timbre of the song would not be repeated by U2 again I think that as an "Anthem" WTSHNN is definately stronger than "Sunday Bloody Sunday".
Smells Like Teen Spirit for the 90's, obviously. I think of all time it'd either be Back in Black or Stairway.

I just think Sunday Bloody Sunday fits because it's of a really specific event that's still very talked about in modern society. It's also a song mired in controversy.
I think of all time it'd either be Back in Black or Stairway.
Highway To Hell is a better example of an anthem that Back In Black. Where I come from, a lot of people have never even heard of AC/DC, but they still know Highway To Hell. And Stairway isn't an anthem. Its an amazing song, but not an anthem
