The US state of Texas is running out of a key drug used for lethal injections, according to officials.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jason Clark said that the state's supply of pentobarbital would end in September.
"We will be unable to use our current supply of pentobarbital after it expires,'' the Associated Press news agency quoted department spokesman Jason Clark as saying. "We are exploring all options at this time."
Here is a option: you can stop executions.
It would have been better to turn over the death penalty through legislative means but I'll still welcome a moratorium on executions
What do they do if they run out completely, go back to old methods like the chair and whatnot till they get more?
Bullets are cheapest if you insist on retaining the death penalty there.
I wouldn't be surprised if they would switch to bullets if they couldn't get any lethal injection stuff for long enough.

You know, I really do hate the idea of lethal injections as a method of execution. It's like they're trying to lie to themselves by making it seem like they're putting them to sleep, which they aren't, they're killing people. The least they could do would be to be honest about it.
yay fuck texas
Just switch back to rope, its cheap and you can re-use it.
No worries we can just execute them with Ol' Sparky at the Huntsville Prison Museum!

-meh, break out the scissors-
Frankly if I had earned a death penalty I'd much rather face a firing squad or a gallows than sit in a chair and get injected.
I mean you're going out anyway - might as well do it with some romanticism
welp we'd better just beat them to death in the streets
or just, y'know, stop using a barbaric and outdated punishment

I once had a dream where I was wrongly accused and executed with a guillotine and it was honestly one of the most terrifyingly life-like nightmares ever.
I'd rather have a death penalty than send people like Anders Breivik to a nice apartment where he can play video games after killing 70+ people.

oh and just in case you weren't sure, Alaska isn't really east of Florida.
And just to make sure no one misunderstands this: if you commit a federal crime, the US government has the death penalty.
No need for drugs, they have plenty of bullets.
Maybe they can send in toddlers with guns, since little kids playing with unsecured loaded guns have killed at least six people this year (including other little kids).

Regardless of what you think about the death penalty, no company should have the ability to force a government into changing their policies. Which is exactly what they are trying to do by refusing the supply the drugs.
Hell if I faced the death penalty, I'd want to get shot out of a 16'' naval cannon like the ones on battleships like a boss instead of getting pumped full of drugs that make you go to sleep.

What is the alternative; the Government rocks up and forces the company to produce and hand over the drugs?
That's now how democracy (or whatever system of Government we are trying to have in the West) works
I'm completely against the Death Penalty, but you'd think they'd just manufacture the chemicals themselves.
Unless it's patented or something idk.

Unless you have heart, lung, and neurological failure every night they don't exactly make you go to sleep.
Pretty much anything you put in a syringe and inject in the blood stream will cause death.
Just use bleach or something.
Or bring back rope as someone said.

What, even blood?

huh wow a permanent solution to a temporary problem
also have you noticed how the reoffense rates in countries where prison is treated as rehabilitation not "fuck u go away for ten to fifteen years" are much less?

More than likely they'll just use the chair or firing squad. An execution won't be halted just because they have no drugs.
Speaking of which, in one of the towns I used to live in the lights would flicker when the state of Florida busted out 'ol sparky.
It also smelled like barbecue for the next few days afterward.
What, even blood?
If it's of a different blood type, yes. It can at least get you very sick.

what?? whoa
IIRC Utah still allows Firing Squad as an option if the person chooses it, last one was in 2010 I think.
Edit: Yup
