SAN ANTONIO — Militia groups along the Texas-Mexico border have grown to more than 10 active "teams" from El Paso to the Rio Grande Valley, despite warnings from U.S. Customs and Border Protection and state lawmakers.
More than 30 photos obtained by the San Antonio Express-News show dozens of members carrying semi-automatic rifles and wearing masks, camouflage and tactical gear, providing a first glimpse of the militias.
The armed individuals are seen posing at campsites, walking along the Rio Grande while speaking with Border Patrol agents, and pointing rifles and pistols out of frame.
A spokesperson for the group provided the photos under the condition that members' faces be blurred because of fear of being identified by "cartel and gang members."
CBP said this month that it does not "endorse or support any private group or organization from taking matters into their own hands, as it could have disastrous personal and public safety consequences."
One of the photos shows a Border Patrol agent providing directions to a vehicle of armed militia members. The agency did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
Gov. Rick Perry, who last week ordered 1,000 Texas National Guard members to the border, declined to comment through a spokesman specifically on whether he supports the militia groups but said the governor is "leading to secure the border."
State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, denounced the groups in a statement, saying "pointing guns at children solves nothing.
"Local law enforcement and federal Border Patrol agents have been clear. The presence of these outside independent militia groups does nothing to secure the border; it only creates an unsafe situation for law enforcement officials that are protecting our communities. Unfortunately, the vile rhetoric of my opponent inspires misguided efforts," said Van de Putte, who is running against state Sen. Dan Patrick, R-Houston, for lieutenant governor.
Oh boy, crazy 3ers and National Guard. This cannot end badly in any way.
Can we just let the Mexican Vigilante/Militia movement do it's thing? That's a lot easier, and a lot less complicated at home.
is one of those fools wearing a CoD: Ghosts mask?

You consider vigilante justice preferable?

If they stay on their side, and don't try to influence anything on our side, then I say let it slide.
would love to see them die in an actual firefight
-misunderstood-
I bet they just go out with their guns and stomp around near the border doing jack shit.
As opposed to cartels bullying or outright assassinating political figures to let them spread?
You are seriously endorsing vigilantism?
From these folk?

Even worse, considering that the plot of the game is about America being invaded by dirty spics.

Oh! No no no no! I thought you were talking about the Militiamen in Mexico who are kicking cartels out of their towns.
These guys are just, what.

While its a conflicting issue, the militiamen in Mexico are more understandable since their country is essentially under equipped for their situation.
I am expecting some "Oh but the same could be said about the US" but those people would be morons for seriously trying to compare US issues to Mexico's issues.
These guys on the other hand I think are more likely to consider this hunting rather than protecting.

Heavens no. Most of your gun-buddies here on Facepunch see the 3ers as psychopaths about 90% of the time.
The Mexican Militia Movement is more anti-cartel, and is preferable as it has already proven itself to be a valuable defense force. So much in fact that it has officially been awarded a law enforcement position by the Mexican government.
When I go hunting near the border, spotting drug runners and cartel members isn't an uncommon occurance.
It's a pretty bad situation

Not to mention that, last I checked, most of the militias from the US that have been cropping up down there are anti-government organizations comprised of radical conspiracy theorists.
i have 50 bucks waiting on one of these groups gunning down some poor group of people crossing the desert mistaking them for drug runners

Oh, I thought by militia you meant the guys in the article and what they are doing. Not the Mexican militia.
I misunderstood your post, we all agree 3ers are shits.
These people should probably not be allowed to do this. I'm okay with the idea of using the NatGuard to boost personnel but untrained, undisciplined militias sound like an accident waiting to happen. If they want to defend their borders so badly, I suggest they join the Border Patrol or NatGuard.

3ers and oathkeepers think the Border Patrol are a conspiracy run by Mexican space lizards to destroy the country. These are anti-government nutjobs looking for an opportunity to get some attention by exploiting one of maybe three issues that they don't entirely have dangerously insane views on.

Let em, they're just gonna take themselves out of the gene pool.

Defiantly. Coming from someone who has had the "privilege" of meeting a few 3ers at gunshows and some goof-off innawoods time, I can say without a doubt that they scare the crap out of me. In comparison to the Oathkeepers of Arizona and some lightfoot groups out in the Midwest that are more about being prepared for natural disasters to coordinate relief efforts and the like, most of these 3ers are just pants on head, shoot everything that moves.
I really wouldn't be surprised if these people ended up massacring a bunch of innocent people.

One thing wrong with this: Even if they joined these organizations, there is no guarantee that the extra manpower will be used to actually secure the border, which is what they are trying to do.
This is a shining example of what happens when the government fails. People try to take matters into their own hands.....

and operators are the fedora of the gun world.
let's give them anti-air equipment and see what happens
please tell me the call of duty guy brought his dog
Sooner or later these people are going to massacre a bunch of unarmed immigrants.
Hopefully before that they'll just be arrested
