Steubenville high school football players on trial

Well they're on trial now, been watching it. The evidence is pretty bad though, really makes you feel sick. They read a lot of text messages they sent each other, some took videos and photos. They did all kinds of awful things.
Some of you may remember because "Anonymous" took a role in it after the high school and town tried to hide the crime.
That was before two star players of the Steubenville High School football team, demigods in this small, down-on-its-luck town along the banks of the Ohio River, were accused last summer of raping a 16-year-old girl, part of a series of alleged assaults chronicled on social media.
One of the photos they took

Sources with video of trial coverage.

I really don't want to click that video.
Its nothing graphic visually. Some of the text they read on the CNN channel were pretty awful though. Actual photos and videos they took are not on the source, it is just trial coverage.
Not going in to major detail but they text each other about needing "Sexual attention", attempting to get oral but she "wouldn't respond", and finger-banging her...
About fucking time
Damn that pic is graphic
I thought the legs and arms were their dicks
What they wanted was a fun night out at the expense of an innocent.
What they got instead was a harsh and deserved dose of LAW
From what I can tell, what's really going to hurt them is there's at least one witness saying an assault took place and that she was unable, due to intoxication, to give consent.
The texts and pics by themselves aren't really proof of anything. For instance, a picture of them hauling her around by her arms and legs only proves they hauled her around by her arms and legs.
Indepedent witnesses though, they can give the context of what happened.

what? How is it not proof, there is videos and pictures of them doing sexual things to her while she is drugged/intoxicated. One of them even deleted a video they took because "they felt like it was a bad thing to do."
Well, in the texts they're admitting to sexual conduct with her. There is a text were after they had raped her they compared her drugged state like being dead. All the evidence being shown is going to hurt them, they're going to go to prison till their 21.
I hope the judge throws the book at them hard for this.

I'd throw bricks.
Edit: I'm sorry, but people like they enrage me the most in life. Taking the opportunity against a helpless individual, a girl no less, makes me livid.
Turning on my John Bunnell
It looks like these players just got tackled. By the LAW.
It looks like their plans were INTERCEPTED
The next pass they'll have to catch is the book from the JUDGE.
sorry.
In all seriousness, that is one scummy as fuck town for trying to cover that up. It makes me sick.

What I mean is their defense is A)consensual and B)she was not too intoxicated to give consent.
So pics and text, whatever they may show, are NOT going to provide evidence by themselves. How can you tell from a pic exactly how drunk she is? From a picture alone, you can't. So what if a text says something, just because a text says something does not make it true.
A witness though, can testify to how drunk she really was. A witness can talk about the assault and if she could consent or not. That's my point. If it was just pics and texts then these guys wouldn't be in trouble.
Absolutely fucking disgusting
The whole mentality of "Football rules, we treat out 17-18 year old players like gods because they play it" pisses me off more than anything. It's just fucking sad. Mostly because I live in a country where sports figures (Even professionals) are not idolised to such an extent.
If this took place in a normal town this shit would have been dealt with months ago.

It is also a small town...has less then like 20,000 people I believe. So, small town values combined with small town mentality and you get this.
I lived in a town smaller then this before - try 600 or so people. A lot of bullshit takes place, not an excuse though. Just a comment on how small town mentality can be.
-snip.
fucking scum bags.
Inability to consent does not provide consent, that lawyer is an asshole. I hope these guys get whats coming to them.
Can we not start this? A lawyer has to defend their client. If their client doesn't want to plead guilty then they have to work with what they got.
Shit like this is what has destroyed the lives of lawyers and I do not envy whoever ended up defending these people.
I don't care that the pic censors nothing graphic; the implications of the picture make me want to puke. I'm glad they're on trial and I hope they get what they fucking deserve.

My home town is still only 900 people, but we don't have that football worship. I know exactly the small-town mentality you're talking about, but I wouldn't consider "under 20,000" that small.
The size of the town doesn't excuse the worship, and the worship doesn't protect the guilty.
It angers me that they are not being tried as adults. If they weren't on the football team they would have been.
i want to see the prosecutor fucking wreck their defense and i want to see these fuckers go to jail.
Reminds me of that King of the Hill episode where the teachers all agree to pass the star quarterback so he can play football even though he's failing except 1000x more corrupt.

i live in a town of about 1,000 and sports sucks up all the funding from programs like the arts

Which is such a shitty, lenient sentence - they deserve far more for what they did.
