• ISPs to include porn filters as default in the UK by 2014
Parental filters for pornographic content will come as a default setting for all homes in the UK by the end of 2013, says David Cameron's special advisor on preventing the sexualization and commercialization of childhood, Claire Perry MP. Internet service providers (ISP) will be expected to provide filtering technology to new and existing customers with an emphasis on opting out, rather than opting in. "[In the UK] we will have filters where if you do nothing, the parental filters will come pre-ticked," said Perry, speaking at a Westminster eForum on 14 June. The move is part of a government effort to force ISPs to make filtering a standard option across industry and to make the technology easier for consumers to use. As ISPs are voluntarily rolling out filtering technology, it will require no new legislation or regulations.
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/06/isps-to-include-porn-filters-as-standard-in-uk-by-2014/ I thought this shit wasn't gonna go ahead? Also what happened to education about this sorta stuff? Quite surprised it's not on here already to be honest.
good luck blocking porn on the internet
Fuck, better start to make use of my 2tb drive! But really, wouldn't this be bypassable by a custom DNS like google DNS?
good luck blocking porn on the internet
They're not really trying to block it, you just now have to opt out of the filter instead of opt in.
What's with people's obsession of keeping pornography out of the hands of minors? 18 years is such an arbitrary age.
If people who actually knew shit about the internet were in charge of making decisions regarding it we wouldn't have to deal with this bullshit. Seriously I bet Claire fucking Perry doesn't even know how to copy paste.
Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck. Can't wait to move out, then.
What's with people's obsession of keeping pornography out of the hands of minors? 18 years is such an arbitrary age.
I think 12 or 13 is a better cutoff. Pornography should be allowed as soon as puberty starts.
I hope this is a block you can change via the router (and thus will only be applicable to routers/firmware produced after that period) so you don't need to ring up your ISP and ask for porn to be unblocked sheeesh
I think 12 or 13 is a better cutoff. Pornography should be allowed as soon as puberty starts.
there is a lot of hardcore shit out there that I think would ruin a person at the age of 12 or 13's life, I'd say 15 or 16 tbh
I think 12 or 13 is a better cutoff. Pornography should be allowed as soon as puberty starts.
People only start looking for pornography when they hit puberty. Before that age a person might accidently find some but it's pretty easy to click away or have a parent do some parenting.
If anything, violence and stuff like that would be worse to a child than porn. Not saying that either are "bad", just think that blood and guts would be a bit more "damaging" than some tits and a booty.
So this gives me about 18 months to move out, at least I have a deadline now
I think 12 or 13 is a better cutoff. Pornography should be allowed as soon as puberty starts.
There's still the problem of lots of unrealistic stuff and impressionable little kids Not that it doesn't already happen
They should make a filter to show me just porn. Make my job easier while you're protecting the children, you lazy bastards.
18 years is such an arbitrary age.
what i don't get is that i'm pretty sure the suggested age for pornography and 'lads' mags' n stuff in this country is 18, but the age of consent is 16
This is stupid; it should be either opt-in or not at all. That way when incompetent parents complain about their 3 year old finding porn on the internet, the government will be fully within it's right to say "you only needed to opt-in to the bloody filter; how bloody hard was it?", sans the profanity. The whole opt-out is only adding to the pile of shit that contributes towards lazy parenting and a fucking nanny state. If you can't take care of your own child, you shouldn't have a bloody child in the first place! Besides we have enough people on the planet already, so it's in your best interests to wear a fucking condom or stay on the bloody pill. And if you absolutely MUST have a child, ADOPT. It is not the government's job to protect your children; it is the job of the family to properly raise children. In fact, the government should instead crack down on sub-par parenting rather than making things easier for lazy cunts that somehow managed to create another useless piece of shit monkey, and yet don't have the qualifications to raise the bloody thing right. If you're going to contribute to population pollution, make sure you take care of the sack of shit properly, and don't be half-arsed about it in case it becomes just another waste of resources.
I don't see the big deal. It seems pretty easy to opt out.
I don't get why people feel the need to "protect children" from porn? Surely it sould be in the hands of the parents and schools to decide how exposed a child should be to such things rather than just having a blanket punishment for the entire country. It's not even as if such things are even that harmful anyway, it's not as if society will collapse if children see breasts or dicks by accident.
Biggest disappointment of the year
what i don't get is that i'm pretty sure the suggested age for pornography and 'lads' mags' n stuff in this country is 18, but the age of consent is 16
Being able to have sex before you can watch it is pretty odd yeah
considering how shit the government is with IT services, I half expect them to end up blocking literally everything somehow classing it as pornography. this should be fun.
I don't see the big deal. It seems pretty easy to opt out.
I think a lot of FPers fear having to say "dad can u turn off the porn block pls"
But really, wouldn't this be bypassable by a custom DNS like google DNS?
Yep.
I don't see the big deal. It seems pretty easy to opt out.
Opting out is going to be awkward when you're not the one paying.
But then 99% percent of the internet would be inaccessable
for every regular website there are five pornographic sites
We all know if someone under the age of 18 sees a boob they turn into a criminal.
Thank god I don't have obscure fetishes.
Write to your MP, and ask them: Will they block the Hot Girls thread
