Ian Paterson ‘exaggerated or simply invented’ risk of cancer, carrying out the ‘completely unnecessary’ breast operations to earn extra money, a court heard. He has gone on trial accused of causing grievous bodily harm to 10 patients. His alleged victims include a woman, 25, left unable to breastfeed as he removed her milk ducts. ... Another, a 42-year-old man, had a double mastectomy after allegedly being told he was ‘on the road to cancer’ despite no evidence of malignancy.

"All of the operations, the prosecution allege, were in fact completely unnecessary," on motive : "Whether to maintain his image as a busy successful surgeon in great demand and at the top of his game, whether to earn extra money by doing extra operations and follow up consultations,"

She was told by Mr Paterson she had pre-cancerous cells in her milk duct and was recommended for surgery two days later. The court heard her scan had been "entirely normal" and that the operation and a similar one later were unnecessary.
We always hear about how awful the NHS is from the media, time to hear about private healthcare. You pay more for equally shitty service, in this case with serious harm being done to patients because this cunt wanted more money. Absolute fucking, greedy ass, private sector psychopath.
Lock him the fuck up. It's really disheartening to see medical professionals act like this; I've worked alongside some excellent medical professionals but all it takes is one tool like this guy to really damage people's faith in the medical community.
This man is a disgrace to the medical profession. Make an example of him in the strongest possible way.
It always sickens me to see people in my field that shouldn't be
A much less malicious version of this unnecessary surgery to basically cover your ass - in the Sanders-Cruz debate I remember Cruz citing 2.5 times the C-sections in the US as a great sign of service and efficiency compared to the NHS - totally ignoring that unless those C-sections are actually needed (and I doubt the UK has 2.5 times the mortality rate in labour), it's just expensive and unnecessary, and it's not like scars are in vogue.
