The family whose home he broke into were all packing heat. Immediately, the dad fired a warning shot above the door, MyFoxOrlando13 reports, but the intruder was not detered. “When Large continued into the kitchen, mom and son opened up, killing him,” BizPacReview writes. “It appears at least two of the family members fired in defense of themselves and their property,” Police Chief Gary Hester explained. “It’s not a very far reach to assume that if someone’s forcing their way into your residence early in the morning, they’re not there to wish you well,” Hester said of the break in. “That’s your castle that a reported intruder is coming into, so whether he was armed or not armed, when he failed to retreat, they certainly had a right — if it turns out this way — would have a right to defend themselves.”
Source: http://rare.us/story/florida-man-breaks-into-house-and-meets-entire-family-with-guns-loaded/
They look like the sort of people that would be armed. If the guy carried on moving in after a warning shot then I guess he had a deathwish or something.
Holy shit! Don't fuck with this family.
Why the fuck wouldn't you run away after a warning shot has been fired next to your head
That looks exactly like the type of family that would be armed.
Well if you break into someone's house and then ignore a warning shot I really have no sympathy for your dumb ass getting blown off.
Why the fuck wouldn't you run away after a warning shot has been fired next to your head
I am going to assume that mind altering substances play a role in his behavior.
Isn't this the family from the show on discovery? Or did they just use the picture.
The family in the picture probably had nothing to do with this because they own a gunshop and are on a tv show about the gunshop, so yeah.
They look like the sort of people that would be armed. If the guy carried on moving in after a warning shot then I guess he had a deathwish or something.
You realize the picture in the OP and at the top of the article are from a tv show about guns right.
You realize the picture in the OP and at the top of the article are from a tv show about guns right.
I just included the picture from the article v:v:v
waiting for people to start an argument on guns. waiting.
Warning shots are still technically illegal in the state of Florida. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/04/04/florida-lawmakers-approve-warning-shot-bill-revising-self-defense-laws/ You are still only permitted to discharge a firearm in immediate defense and only at the assailant. They are working to change that, apparently. I'm betting that here, since they ultimately did shoot him in a justified shoot, that it will be ignored, but sadly, if he'd listened to the warning shot and fled, the dad could be in jail.
dumbass deserves to be dead. I mean how logical; Break into someones house, get a WARNING shot(most people wouldn't even do that). Still decides to approach guns. What an idiot.
You realize the picture in the OP and at the top of the article are from a tv show about guns right.
Still applies then I guess
Asshole was warned, and ignored it. Can't say I feel bad for him.
I am going to assume that mind altering substances play a role in his behavior.
Bath salts?
Why the fuck wouldn't you run away after a warning shot has been fired next to your head
Probably something wrong with him.
You realize the picture in the OP and at the top of the article are from a tv show about guns right.
How were we supposed to know that?
this is a random thought, but wouldn't you have hearing damage from shooting indoors without ear protection?
Typically rational people don't break into houses to begin with.

I can understand not firing warning shots in public, which is potentially more dangerous than on your own private property. I don't want to go digging through the laws but I'd imagine an intruder on your property is a different case than stand your ground law.
That's some good mother-son bonding time.
Bath salts?
The psychosis-inducing effects of baths salts (mostly MDPV) are massively overrated and are a great example of sensationalist media creating the notion of an epidemic where there is none.
this is a random thought, but wouldn't you have hearing damage from shooting indoors without ear protection?
I suppose that for any permanent damage to happen you would need to listen to sustained fire
Mitchell Large's cousin, Eddie Roberts, was interviewed: http://www.wfla.com/story/25196286/winter-haven-home-invasion
“I don't give a damn how strung out he was on drugs, if he was, that's not Mitch. That's not him. It don't go down like that,” he said. “It wasn't a home invasion- there's more to it and I'd like to get to the bottom of it,” Roberts said. “Me a gun-totin' rights activist, I'll shoot you if you come in my house,” Roberts said. “But me and my whole family's not gonna take up arms and meet you in the kitchen and shoot you down.” “What, these people just have guns laying on the dresser- grab them and start shooting people?” Roberts asked. “Warning shot, yes,” he said in how he would react if he were the homeowner. “Gunfire in the kitchen, no.” “I might have shot him in the leg, shot him somewhere non-vital,” Roberts said.

Police believe the Pena family protected themselves and property from an intruder. ... Police say all signs show Mitchell Large was a total stranger to the Pena family, and that when they felt threatened of someone uninvited coming into their home, they fired in self-defense.
Sounds like ol' Mitch was a junkie who broke into the wrong home at the wrong time.
That is the the picture of the perfect stereotypical american family. Right down to the giant gold cross and the awkward phone holster in the dad's pocket
Haha woo a guy got killed! #murrica
castle you see the problem with definition here
The term "castle" in a law sense means a person's home or place of residence.
