It happened around 8 p.m. Thursday. The man, who had a Southern California address, was trying to board a Southwest Airlines flight to Los Angeles. He was going through a security checkpoint when TSA inspectors noticed suspicious items in the bin where he had placed his carry-on bag. They found what appeared, to them, to be components of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) including a watch with wires, fuses, and a toggle switch. All the components were there except for an explosive. During the inspection they also found that the man's boots had been altered. The man had stuffed layers of insoles into his boots like shoe bomber Richard Reid had done. Authorities say they are taking the matter very seriously. TSA officials notified the Alameda County Sheriff's Office who took the man into custody and in turn, called the bomb squad in to examine the materials. The FBI was also notified. The sheriff's office says the man claims the watch was a piece of art. The investigation is ongoing.
not enough article info to make an opinion of it really. the watch is sketchy but, what if that's all? Can't do much with only the wires and fuses... I still wouldn't trust that watch however. I kind of want boots with hidden pockets though, sounds bad ass. Even though in this case it's sketchy as shit.
A watch, some wires, some switches, some fuses, and hidden compartments cannot make a bomb. What a terrible report. The article even says
All the components were there except for an explosive.
Which is a bit like someone "stealing a computer" by taking the mouse, keyboard, monitor, and power cables, but leaving the tower.
because it's in the reporter's best interests to write an article containing information how to create a bomb?
because it's in the reporter's best interests to write an article containing information how to create a bomb?
He doesn't have to describe how to make a bomb, just not lie and say that he could make a bomb without the bomb part.
because it's in the reporter's best interests to write an article containing information how to create a bomb?
Just saying "a watch, wires, a fuse, and a toggle switch" isn't exactly enough info to make a bomb. [editline]November 16 2012[/editline] Feh, bomb ninjas.
Hell, maybe he's an electrician or just really into electronics? Probably not but, still pretty reactionary to consider it a threat.
One day I want to go through Airport Security with The Anarchist Cookbook and see if I can get away with it
Man with Sudafed stopped at airport, accused of making meth.
So next time all I need is throw in batteries, wires, fuses and switches and go to the airport to be labeled as a terrorist?
