More on that later though.
https://twitter.com/devolverdigital/status/301390074711511042
YES! I mean, Forever was fun for the £4.99 I paid for it (that included the single player DLC), but this will be so much fun!
Duke Nukem Forever should have just been a remake of Duke Nukem 3D.
Brovolver Digital.
That's amazing, looks like ol' duke is getting help from sam.
Good, it's always hard to get a hold of this game whenever I need it again. I have my old discs somewhere, along with Duke it Out in DC. Sorta hate that iD Games does the same thing - holding on to their ancient Doom games; meaning I have to religiously make sure I don't delete the master Wads I have laying around, less I go hunting again. :v:
Please be on linux as well! [editline]12th February 2013[/editline]
Good, it's always hard to get a hold of this game whenever I need it again. The entire doom series is available on Steam.
Fuck yeah!!!
Sam is helping out his pal Duke who hasn't been feeling so well recently <3

I hope this has something to do with the System Shock 2 rumours.
I never played the originals really, so i'll gladly buy this when it's out.
I still have the Plutonium Pack CD that I bought in 1998, I don't think I'm going to bother re-buying it on Steam. All of the older games I've seen released on Steam use some of the poorest Windows ports that either don't work or are severely feature anemic. Some even use Dosbox, which is really unacceptable. You already have the overhead of Steam, you don't need more overhead of an emulator on top of that just to play an old game.
Already have it on GoG but that's still awesome
Where is the money going to?
I want a Serious Sam x Duke Nukem crossover.
Is 3D realms still in business? Even barely? [editline]12th February 2013[/editline] Automerge fuck [editline]12th February 2013[/editline] Appareantly it is. Though im pretty sure they wouldnt start up the company again even if they got a shit-ton of money with DN3D on Steam.

It was one of the first things I got on Steam.
I like how Devolver Digital specializes in publishing really fucking good retro and retro-feeling games. I guess it's eponymous in that regard. [editline]12th February 2013[/editline]
it's sad that tthat game is only worth paying that much for
I got DNF for free and I still couldn't tolerate it. I was bored to tears and I got to the point where we had to euthanize alien infected women so at that point the game was both boring and tasteless so I just gave up.
it's sad that tthat game is only worth paying that much for
The game was perfectly fine and people are just whiney babies nowadays. The game played exactly like I would have wanted it to, with the exception of the weapon limit and regenerating health, and the humour was no different than Duke Nukem 3D, it just had fewer memorable one liners. It's actually sad because when Half Life 3 finally comes out, I imagine that unless the game is as groundbreaking as Half Life 2(highly unlikely in this day and age), there will be a similar response to it due to the long wait.

Both of these games are considered masterpieces regardless of the wait because they were genuinely good games even when not compared to their progenitors. Duke Nukem Forever, even when not compared to Duke Nukem 3D, was boring and repetitive. Please stop making such inane generalizations about how people respond to games just because you are one of the outliers who enjoyed the DNF.
I thought Duke Nukem Forever was not a travesty. Its development just ran on it. I still liked it (though I liked the dlc story more despite it being short) and decent graphics. Only thing I found wrong with the game was character animations and aim down the sights
DNF wasn't as bad as everyone said, but it definitely did not feel like a Duke Nukem game: when I play DN3D, it is quick, it has a lot of unique weapons, and it is pretty nonlinear (at least in term of secrets). When I play DNF, it is slow, linear as hell, and the weapons are boring. It certainly wasn't a travesty, but it definitely shouldn't have been as hyped. Honestly, the game looked more Duke Nukemy in early development, and I wish they stuck with that.
heres why dnf was awful: it looked like shit 2 guns slow as shit not fun to shoot enemies hardly any weapons in the game itself health regen linear shitty level design bad multiplayer long wait (bad considering all the hype) the humor has not aged well, and should have been written to compensate an addition to that, duke fucking makes a joke about the twins being raped by aliens, thats low as shit
Most of these are spot-on, but the wait and the humor complains are relative (I didn't know about DNF during my childhood, humor can appeal to others though not the goddamn rape joke).
Where is the money going to?

Is 3D realms still in business? Even barely?
When you buy a major game through a publisher, even brand-new, not a single cent that you paid goes to the developers. They're paid salaries, and are hired to develop the game, then move on to another project. If the game sells extremely well, it's the publisher that profits- usually meaning they'll hang onto the developers for another game or two. Steam works a little differently, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about who exactly the money's going to. It's DN3D, let's enjoy it for what it is.
What do you mean? The entire doom series is available on Steam.
Sorry, I was tired when I posted that. I should have elaborated about the whole 20 year old games still costing money bit. It's less about the developers and more about the fact that I had once owned X game, but lost the disc or it was for Mac instead of PC. Had a nasty case of that when I wanted to play Age of Empires II again, only to find I had a Mac-Only CD version. :v:
I always thought the 360 version of DN3D was the best. Please don't hurt me.
I never played the originals really, so i'll gladly buy this when it's out.
Why didn't you just buy it on GoG before? You also don't have to deal with DRM if you buy it from there.
Most of these are spot-on, but the wait and the humor complains are relative (I didn't know about DNF during my childhood, humor can appeal to others though not the goddamn rape joke).
It feels like the humor in the main game is written by the Family Guy / Robot Chicken writers sometimes in terms of pop-culture and 'lol' moments they go for. And the sex jokes sound like they're inspired by South Park or something. Both in the bad kind of way. But then that's my own opinion on the matter, DNF is just such a bland game. If it came out in the early life of the Xbox 360 or something, that's one thing, but as it stands it's just.. Bluegh. Wish I paid attention to sales so I could nab the Doctor Who Cloned Me DLC, though.

To be fair, the humor in DN:3D was not in dialog, as there IS no dialog. DNF, however, has its humor entirely in the bland interactions you have with other individuals. But, why dwindle on the horrible past, and think about the good past? DN:3D is coming to Steam, and it's being made better. Let's just wait for that and quiet this circlejerk.
