Scientists said the long-range goal is to better understand and treat an array of human diseases. The researchers hope to ultimately cultivate human tissue that can be given to patients awaiting transplants. But that's a long way off, said Jun Wu, who worked on the research. "This study is reporting an important first step," said Wu, a staff scientist at the Salk Institute, in La Jolla, Calif. That step, specifically, was to insert human stem cells into pig embryos. Weeks later, some of the embryos showed signs that the human cells were beginning to mature and turn into "tissue precursors." Such embryos are known as chimeras, and they are controversial.
So does this mean catgirls in the near future :v:?
So does this mean catgirls in the near future :v:?
No this is a very specialized technology. Pig-girls only.

A bored scientists alone in a room with the embryo jacks off and some seaman flies and touches it and what happens next

My god, we're only one step away from having a full fledged ManBearPig situation on our hands!
They will not be what you imagine
Nothing a little science cant fix
Uproar when?
Uproar when?
I'm pretty sure they're legally obligated to terminate it so having an uproar over their little lab experiment would be silly imo.
Fox girls and frog girls pls [editline].[/editline] Also squid girls, obviously. [editline]26th January 2017[/editline]
I'm pretty sure they're legally obligated to terminate it so having an uproar over their little lab experiment would be silly imo.
The old farts at the GOP are trying to push the idea that human life starts at fertilization so I can imagine an uproar being caused over a half-human embryo.
They will not be what you imagine
While yes, that wouldn't create anything like a what we call a 'catgirl' or even just a 'catperson' at all, I could imagine people utilizing genetic components from other species for practical and aesthetic purposes via self-modification at some point in the future. So while not ears and a tail, better night vision or sense of smell gleaned from the genetics of a species optimized for predation might be plausible at some point...
give me bonobo, gorilla, super humans
It would be good to shove some rapid growing dna into human stem cells to produce organs in months rather than years
Or fuck with our DNA so we gain the ability some animals have to regenerate our damaged tissue, hell that might even deal with stuff like cancer. [editline]edit[/editline] Then again, I don't feel safe putting any sort of animal DNA anywhere near our genetic structure, who's to say that won't fuck us up completely generations down the line.
Are they gonna let this one run for President too?
It would be good to shove some rapid growing dna into human stem cells to produce organs in months rather than years
Sounds like a recipe for tumors
Are you telling me we're gonna have snakes with human traits?
This just in, a statement from the White House:
My god, how horrifying. I hope they get whatever they need from it soon so they can kill it quickly.
Um, is this not like breaking ethical codes or what?
So Hyperpigs from Revelation Space are a go.
Um, is this not like breaking ethical codes or what?
If they don't let it develop, no.
