CNN poll and one Democratic Consultant: Republicans might win the senate
Washington (CNN) -- Four weeks away from the 2014 midterm elections and even some Democratic operatives struggle to imagine a scenario where they retain control of the U.S. Senate. The terrain and current momentum seem all but overwhelming and against them.
A new CNN/ORC poll out Thursday morning suggests a Republican lead over a Democratic incumbent, this time in Alaska, and does nothing to calm Democrats' nerves.
"If you put a gun to my head, I guess I'd say that we're going to lose the Senate," one Democratic consultant told me in a moment of anonymous candor.
Welp
I don't like either party but I'd prefer something less shitty.
We are so fucked.
Time for to set new records for presidential vetoes...
I'm not voting for either anyway.

Unless you're voting for a third party candidate, that's a terrible attitude to have.

Nah we're better off

I am.

I'd love to see you argue your opinion.

As is my understanding of American Politics, both the parties are so similar that it really doesn't make a difference for normal people whose in office because both the 2 parties are so similar.

Vote Republicrat or vote nothing at all :v:
I distaste both parties but the republicans I hate the most.

This really isn't true though. The parties have meaningfully different platforms on a number of issues; the slow speed of American politics and the constant back-and-forth of which party is in power is mostly what keeps either side from making gains and what makes both parties seem indistinguishable.
If they manage to keep themselves in power for more than a few terms though the republicans will start locking down on abortion, arresting the progress of LGBT rights and worker's rights, and just generally do all that bad shit we don't want to see happen. A republican presidency will mean right-leaning supreme court justices which will have ramifications for decades to come. The indifferent belief that the parties are "both the same" is one of the most powerful tools they have to keep young, progressively-minded people from getting politically motivated.

I don't know of any republican/conservative who pushes this idea. If anything, it's the extremes of both parties that argue that line of thought.
That's what happens when you elect a shitty president who's in your party.
Either way I don't fucking care, the world's fucked and I'm going to have issues getting anywhere in life regardless of who's running things.
I (and any sane person) lean Democratic but I have no entrenched loyalty to the Democratic party
it's kind of disgusting to me going to events for Democratic candidates and seeing how ~for the party~ some people are
This is exactly how I feel.
"I'm voting X"
"WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE THAT'S UNAMERICAN!"
when a more appropriate response could be:
"Why?"
I don't know of any republican/conservative who pushes this idea. If anything, it's the extremes of both parties that argue that line of though.
But young people are statistically more left-leaning and statistically less likely to vote so clearly the republicans are the ones who benefit the most from it.

One pretends to care about the average person while the other openly wants to strip all protections and regulations and go back to late 1800s industrial conditions
So ya similar
But young people are statistically more left-leaning and statistically less likely to vote so clearly the republicans are the ones who benefit the most from it.
Yet that has nothing to do with what I said. If you want to show a republican pushing that idea, then please do.
Democrats had the most to gain from the Iraq war not going well... does that mean that they tried to cause it to happen?
I am.
If you would have otherwise voted for a Democrat then congratulations, you actually just made it easier for a Republican to win.
oh boy I can't wait for the war/money hungry corrupt fuckers to start ww3.
oh boy I can't wait for the war/money hungry corrupt fuckers to start ww3.
Which ones, the ones here in america or the ones over in eastern Europe?
The worst thing is if the senate falls then the republican tea parties are going to gut the epa regulations that are fighting global warming
de-sensationalized the title, a poll and a consultant saying reps probably have favor isn't exactly "DEMOCRATS HAVE CONCEDED DEFEAT"
it's kind of disgusting to me going to events for Democratic candidates and seeing how ~for the party~ some people are
Fucking this, I went to a few Democrat events for some classes I was taking back when the Presidential reelection was up. Its controlled by insiders that have been doing the same shit since the 70's. Literally some people there think you're not worthy to be there if you haven't broken your back in a factory and aren't some kind of democrat crusader
Best Politicians I met and still friends with to this day are the ones just that are just left but can't make it on the independent ticket.
Yet that has nothing to do with what I said. If you want to show a republican pushing that idea, then please do.
I never said that they intentionally cultivated it; only that it was politically advantageous to them and in their interests not to quell it where they could. We can spend all day in a pedantic argument about semantics but the point stands that political indifference is very much more of a boon to one party than the other.
Also the commercial crew program will probably be gutted as well as other successful programs just because Obamas signature is on the legislation
If you would have otherwise voted for a Democrat then congratulations, you actually just made it easier for a Republican to win.
I'll vote with a clear conscience, not for the lesser of two evils.
I'll vote with a clear conscience, not for the lesser of two evils.
Nobody has ever convinced me that the democrats are "evil." Individual democratic politicians might have their flaws but the party platform is sound.
Poll: Americans probably going to shit where they eat again

You literally said that it's "one of the most powerful tools they have to keep young, progressively-minded people from getting politically motivated." Don't try and backpedal and make it sound like I'm the one being "pedantic" when you clearly made a negative claim.
I seriously fear a Republican government again. If you thought the time during Bush's presidency was bad, you're going to shit yourself when you see what will happen when the Tea Party gets control of the government.
Wrong mentality to have IMO

I'll vote with a clear conscience, not for the lesser of two evils.
Say you have an electorate; 55 percent of the people support the Democrat candidate and 45 percent support the Republican candidate. If a vote happened with just those two candidates, the Democrat would obviously win. If a third candidate had started campaigning and won the support of 15% of the people, all who would have otherwise voted for the Democrat, the Republican would end up winning the election due to the votes being 45% Republican (plurality winner), 40% Democrat and 15% third party.
In Federal elections in the US, a vote for a third party is a vote for the major party which you don't like.
