What started out as a call by an Egyptian member of parliament, has now reached the Ministry of Telecommunications taking its initial steps to block Internet pornography in the country, local daily, Egypt Independent reports.According to the newspaper, Minister of Telecommunications and Information Technology Mohamed Salem announced that the National Telecommunications Regulation Authority (NTRA) is forming a committee to tackle to methods in which the censorship will be implemented. The committee will also reportedly consist of members of parliament.
Speaking about the plan to go ahead with the block, Salem said, “The issue is becoming persistent and worrying to families,” echoing statements made by conservative MP, Dr. Younis Makhioun last month.
At the time, Makhioun said in an interview [Arabic] that access to pornography has had a negative effect on families, and has even led to divorce and rape.
Makhioun and Salem are not the only supporters for the ban of Internet pornography, with the parliamentary committee for Transportation and Telecommunications asking not only that access to these sites be blocked, but are also pushing for legislation that will allow for the punishment of ISPs that don’t comply with the ban.
Salem, estimating the number of adult websites to be in the millions, added that there are tech companies which issue software to block these sites for underage users. He did not, however, reveal the names of these companies, or if the government was in talks to purchase software.
Several ISPs already offer customers the option to block their own personal access to offensive content, including Egypt’s largest ISP, TEData, with its ‘Family Internet service’, which allows users to block “indecent content”.
However, it appears highly likely that the choice will no longer be left up to Egyptian Internet users.
A similar attempt to block pornography in Tunisia was thrown out of court, with its vocal critics expressing concern over the potential slippery slope they could find themselves on, where any content deemed offensive by the government could be blocked, on the pretext that it contradicts the country’s moral or political values.
Egypt is currently listed on Reporters without Borders latest report as being ‘under surveillance’ as a potential enemy of the Internet.
I don't know if FP houses any Egyptians but may God have mercy on 'em all.
Oh look some cocks on the screen, ban it because its damaging our people, but don't ban that show about rape and murder we love that.
Suddenly rape crime increases, murder increases.
If porn leads to rape and divorce, then god knows how much of the earth's population should be put away for it.
But really wouldn't this just increase rape?

Well, blue balls certainly isn't.
Haha, pretty much the whole Gulf Arab region has this ban in effect. Every time I go there in the Summer, it fucking sucks. Not just because porn websites are banned, but any website that has the SLIGHTEST bit of nudity gets blocked too.
That and the fact that a shit-tonne of websites are caught up in the midst of it all and get banned when they don't even have porn. It's pathetic.

Gross!
She's all naked and shit!
People are horny. Do you really think taking away porn will fix the problem? That especially relates to teens as they're horny as shit during puberty. How can they think porn ban fixes anything is beyond me. If anything it will affect teens in worse ways.
thank god, as a devoted christian i can say this will only do good for the world.
Lol "negative effects on families". The porn industry can hardly be blamed for bad marriages leading to divorces and people with mental disorders that rape people. Both of those problems do however suggest that Egypt is in need of a better mental healthcare plan.
Edit: I do realize that I made a typo in my post since I began writing one sentence and forgot to change it when I decided to write something else. Now, stop quoting.
This is a good decision, I mean, thousands die from looking at boobs every day! :v:

Because they're still in the hatred of any form of sensuality and are in complete self-denial because that's what God wants you to do to go to that place to fuck the 72 virgins.
I soo wish I was kidding rite now.
shit, i am egyptian and i need porn to get through the day.
Better build up the wank bank then.
Serious point here, though: what is it about...well, everything, that renders sex taboo? We're built to do it, and it's actually detrimental not to have some sexual gratification every so often. I wonder what brought it about (particularly with regards to religion). Control through frustration, someone being massively jealous at some point in history?
