• 1999 Subaru Forester Bush car?

I have a 1999 Subaru Forester, with 275k on it. I have no money invested into it. I know it needs a windshield, brakes all round, front calipers, exhaust and a tiny bit of body work (Rear Quarters). I`m asking Facepunch to see what you guys think. I can either fix it and try to get money out of it or should i have fun with it and modify it and drive it round the yard and on the trails? Asking you guys on your opinions on the Subaru. I am a Subaru Owner (1998 Legacy Outback 5 speed 2.5L) and love it. Also Subaru General. Make it in to your own personal rally car.
fix it then break it in a rally then fix it again subaru master race reppin
make into a rally car
Rally car project.
You guys do know that the forester is the one on the left, right? You know, the one with the big "FORESTER" on the brush guard.. [editline]8th October 2011[/editline] Unless you really want to turn an SUV in to a rally car..
Invest for extreme Jungle trailing, add some snorkel so you can drive across a flooded road like a baws. Like this guy, A similar Subaru by the way.

It's big for a rally car.
[t]http://www.stiblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/112_0705_11zpeter_solberg_subaru_impreza_rally_carsliding.jpg[/t] Fairly big as well [editline]8th October 2011[/editline] Sure, maybe not as big as the forester, but a couple extra inches isn't going to make or break a well-made rally car. [editline]8th October 2011[/editline] And from the looks of the picture, the one on the right is pretty much the same size as the one on the left, so idk where you guys are coming from there, either.

It can't be THAT much bigger, can it? I've never seen a forester in person, but WRX's aren't exactly small.

edberg's right. The Forester and Impreza share the same chassis. The only difference is the body, struts, and trailing arms. Even the interior is the same if I remember right. I would personally take a Forester over an Impreza as a rally car. I have problems with bottoming out in my Impreza, the Forester has a few more inches of ground clearance so it wouldn't be as big of a problem. Plus, it has better weight distribution.

Mitsubishi Endeavor and Galant were on the same chassis. But on a rally car, everything is going to be stripped except for the most basic body panels, so other than being taller and maybe a bit longer i don't think it would make too much of a difference. If you honestly think it's going to then make it into a goddamn trophy/baja truck or something, don't know why it has to turn into an argument.

Specs on first gen Forester: Length - 175.2" Width - 68.3" Height - 65.0" Wheelbase - 99.4" Weight - 1430kg Specs on first gen Impreza: Length - 172.2" Width - 67.1" Height - 56.3" (for OBS, 55.5" for regular. Difference is tire size, and with rally you would go with the larger size) Wheelbase - 99.2" Weight - 1220kg The difference in length is most likely due to the bumpers, height because of ground clearance and maybe taller body, and wheelbase because of the different trailing arms.
The Forester works fine for rallying if you mod it for that End of discussion
The Forester works fine for rallying if you mod it for that End of discussion
It doesn't need to be modded to do it. It should be fine as it is.
Not really modded but you know, the extra lights and the right tires ect :v:
Needs more lights they add 100hp.

If you read properly, you would have noticed that. Rated you dumb for bad reading.
Needs more lights they add 100hp.
No, but more lights for when it gets dark and you drive fast and need to see clearly where you go
No, but more lights for when it gets dark and you drive fast and need to see clearly where you go
Well yeah but the real reason you want them is to add horsepower. Remember, if your car looks cool it goes really fast. It's all explained by this equation: S = V(C + HP) where S = speed C = coolness HP = stock horsepower V = vtec coefficient
Needs more lights they add 100hp.
Only the Hella ones though, and no, you arent allowed to take the covers off
I have decided to turn it into a trail car. I will try to update as things get done. Lots of lights, maybe add some height, custom exhaust(It's rotten) I'm up in Canada so i'm sure to get some good use of it in the snow. Subaru master race.

Mild update, I have junked the Forester as we found out the undercarriage was rotten out. I have gutted the driveline, suspension and wiring harness for a project i am working on. I want to run the motor using the ECU and still have the motor fuel injected but I only want the engine managed by the ECU and nothing else. Also I might grab some pictures of what's left of the forester as it is only 3 ft tall and sitting in a scrap bin right now. The snow is piling up here in Canada and my Outback loves it, controlled sliding and other snow fun is amazing.
