A mysterious conservative group with strong ties to the Koch brothers has been bombarding inboxes with emails filled with disinformation and fearmongering in an attempt to start a "grassroots" campaign to kill net neutrality—at one point suggesting that "Marxists" think that preserving net neutrality is a good idea. The emails, which come with subject lines like "Stop Obama's federal Internet takeover," come from American Commitment, an organization that is nonprofit in name only and has been called out time and time again by journalists and transparency organizations for obscuring where it gets its funding.
Source: http://motherboard.vice.com/read/net-neutrality-is-marxist-according-to-this-koch-backed-astroturf-group
What a bunch of motherfuckers. [editline]26th August 2014[/editline] This is fucking lying and slander. These fuckers are trying to destroy the greatest human invention of all time for a couple of fucking bucks.
I would point out that net neutrality stops large websites paying to throttle smaller ones out of existence, which is good for competition, not bad. But they already know that full well.
What's wrong with Marx? Do the Koch brothers believe there's still a Wisconsin Senator named McCarthy..?
What's wrong with Marx? Do the Koch brothers believe there's still a Wisconsin Senator named Mccarthy..?
when in doubt, blame terrorists or communism
Bet they looked up Marxism on wikipedia... On second thought, they probanly didn't.
What's wrong with Marx? Do the Koch brothers believe there's still a Wisconsin Senator named McCarthy..?
The first Koch made his money from dealing with Stalin.
when in doubt, blame terrorists or communism
or mexicans or the welfare system
Bet they looked up Marxism on wikipedia...
More like that they looked it up on Conservapedia.
why can't we have nice things like the internet without people constantly trying to fuck it over for capitalistic gains?
In the eyes of these assholes, a perfect world would have the Internet function as the world's largest 1-900 number. Paying $3.50 a minute to access the WWW via an expensive dial-up connection is a shyster's wet dream come true.
The first comment from the source sums up my thoughts on the matter pretty well.
If I were to choose between sign a petition for this assheads or send my bank account info to the nigerian prince.... Ill choose the nigerian prince
hi, marxist here net nuetrality isn't marxist there's a stronger case that NN is actually closer to enlightenment and liberal conceptions but that's fine Koch just throw away the concepts that actually allow your favorite economic system to function and destroy progress and democracy for your own pocketbook's benefit assholes
It's funny how all these conservative grassroots campaigns are actually bankrolled by mega-rich people.
A free net is almost analogous to a free market (laissez-faire), which is economic liberalism.
No, net neutrality is enforced by the government. It is interventionism to promote competition and technological advancement.
when in doubt, blame terrorists or communism
What about Obama?
No, net neutrality is enforced by the government. It is interventionism to promote competition and technological advancement.
That's true.
What about Obama?
Obama is brown so he falls under terrorist, duh.
And let me tell you: if these outrageous restrictions were around in the '90s when the internet was just gaining steam, the Internet as we know it today wouldn't exist.
My bullshit-metre broke.
Net neutrality is the fucking opposite of Marxist if anything. If anyone's a Marxist then it's these cunts trying to push for a closed, Big Brother controlled internet.
why can't we have nice things like the internet without people constantly trying to fuck it over for capitalistic gains?
Because it was invented in THE capitalistic country. What I want to know is how these guys slip this kind of shit through law and nobody can do a goddamn thing, because that's what's going to happen.

I find it funny how these guys and those like them ("libertarians", anarcho-capitalists, etc.) campaign for a "true free market" but actually they really just want one that plays into the hands of their own vested interests i.e. an oligopoly. Ultimately they just seem to want their own privatised state that protects their interests (the interests of those with the most capital) and not those of the public at large. They want to be able to do whatever they want. They don't want free market internet, they want internet that they can manipulate to their liking just because of their perceived virtue that they have a fuckload of money (and still want more) so why not.
"Americans have been getting faster and faster Internet speeds because of competition in the free economy, not because of anything the government has done," the petition reads. "The people calling for government control over the Internet are a tiny minority of far-left political activists, and the FCC knows it."
Competition between internet companies? In America? who do they expect to believe this shit Oh, right, old people who don't know any better. :suicide: Oh my god, these fuckers want private water, sewers, and electricity. [editline]27th August 2014[/editline]
It's funny how all these conservative grassroots campaigns are actually bankrolled by mega-rich people.
Sort of like when Glenn Beck said "Hey, viewers, let's all meet up in Washington DC to protest Obama!", then when people showed up, he said "Wow, look at this massive grassroots campaign!"
I'll be so happy when we get these money-grubbing old farts out of congress, etc. There's a point to when they sit so high and mighty on their thrones that just incurs loathing.
congratulations, you just realized what 99% of libertarians can't, and i would say the bolded part is the real issue at hand here, its not just "more money" they want.
But yo, Stefan Molyneux is like a philosopher, man, :(
But yo, Stefan Molyneux is like a philosopher, man, :(
He believes that individual citizens should have the right to own nuclear weapons and store them in their homes.
Yeah Mr Molineux is rather a nutter. He was on the Joe Rogan podcast a few times a while back (think he's been on recently too but I avoided them episodes) and I downloaded some of his free domain radio stuff - it was so terrible especially the one where he tried to argue against state health care systems by claiming that nobody should have the right to forcefully demand health care for free at gunpoint from those that provide it and that forcing tax payers to fund it is just theft because taxation full stop is theft. He really seems to think highly of himself too... he did a short interview with Chomsky (a libertarian socialist) and when Chomsky asked him about or mentioned structural violence he just went silent as if indifferent or unwilling to acknowledge it's existence. (he wants no state and no state hierarchy but is fine with unaccountable autocratic private hierarchies such as businesses and corporations, etc.)
