The pressure from both the audience and adsense to cough up X number of videos a month must really suck the fun out of what these people clearly love doing. That's why I'm so appreciative of the ones that only make videos when they feel like it and when they think they've got a really good idea for a video. If you're a full time youtuber, your hobby is basically a business.
As someone who has had panic attacks, I can say they are horrible. I can't even imagine what's it like to get them so often.
Monetizing Youtube was a mistake.
no it wasnt lol think of your favorite vlogger/youtuber/whatever poofing out of relevancy because they don't have any real incentive to make videos besides it being "a hobby". monetization has become a win win situation for the makers and the viewers. they get money doing what they love and we get the content - easy as that. there are plenty of mistakes youtube has made from monetization but monetization itself is not a mistake.
this is like my life

I've suffered from anxiety almost all my life and he pretty much nailed it on the head. It's a never ending cycle of self shaming and worrying about small stuff that you've blown out of proportion in your mind. And as some one who is also striving to be an entertainer, it's a real uncomfortable combo. Kudos to Alex though for sticking true to himself through all of this though. Some times you really do have to just stop and smell the roses, and make sure they don't smell like sour milk and piss. Nothing, not even your own job is worth ignoring your physical and mental health.

I've had my share of panic attacks since my early childhood and it still follows me to this day on random occasions and can surprise me in a row or at random days in the month. Its a living torture that I despise, and one that just makes me want to tear out my eyes to try to imagine a life without having to witness life anymore. I know earlier this month i've had the terrors again, and it just kept on waking me up and just made me scared sleeping fearing for my life everytime as thoughts raced on about the many different ways the world might end in a blink of an eye. It was something I didn't find all too endearing, and something I just dread of happening again. It just feels as though I can't enjoy life without having to keep on thinking about the possibilities and how at the end of the day i'm just a speck trying to fix a fellow speck's problems in this vast universe that continues to change as we speak.
Panic attacks are sort of like less severe heart attacks. The Sopranos sums them up quite good.
Panic attacks are the worst. It's like having a violent flu, a heart attack, and a schizophrenic paranoia fit all at once.

ive ran a semi-successful channel for a few years now (onyourcomputer) and i relate alot to what he's saying about the anxiety of having to constantly entertain a fanbase in order to maintain respect/image and loyal viewers. although my channel is alot smaller than IHE, I still feel the pressure to constantly uphold consistent and quality content to a sometimes unforgiving audience. as someone who naturally has anxiety issues it can become very toxic at times and has put me in some dark places. on the flip side, i don't regret any of it. im an artist and this is what i wanted to do. sure its alot more to handle emotionally than i could have expected, but its opened up plenty of opportunities and allowed me to continue to try and make a living doing what i love. its nice to know that there's popular figures in the community talking about these issues. everyone you watch on youtube is a real person at the end of the day and i hope more people start to see this.
The stalker thing is weirdly prevalent. I remember this guy I watch, Sorcererdave, in one of his videos had to turn around and bitch out his audience because people had managed to track down his Steam profile so they could see if he'd been playing (and thus recording) Skyrim, then harass him on twitter/youtube comments for not recording Skyrim stuff. He's not even a super 'huge' channel, he only has 60,000 subs, and he still gets this shit.
Problem is that the audience is still used to the TV format where they expect new episodes each week. Since Youtube creators are expected to churn out content on a daily to weekly basis, it creates a larger pressure for everyone involved in the process. Larger issue is that like TV, people for some reason can't just go to a different channel, so in this case, it's pretty much, "There are 1,000 channels but nothing to watch." This is probably why I never subscribe to other channels since I don't want the anxious feeling of when the creator will upload his next work.
That's not exactly it, although, it is a strong point. Since the internet has made some large personalities, it's given the depraved NEETs of the internet something to target. It's just depraved mentally damaged people given something they can call a purpose. [editline]17th June 2016[/editline] Also on the whole push content point, to anyone who produces content I'm one of the people who greatly appreciates what you do. Even when I don't see something new posted, I get a bit disappointed but still know that you're all making great things. For example, the guy on here who makes the detective nigbone videos, I nearly shit myself when I saw his new thing posted. I know he works hard to make his show, and it takes time but goddamn it's quality. I wish people would appreciate quality over quantity more.
