The music is killing my ears, what a waste, the actual video is pretty well done.
Edit: As I said down there I changed my mind, got used to listening to crappy trailer music. This kinda reminded me of a theme from kingdom hearts.
I played it at launch and it was fun but MMORPGs aren't really my cup of tea. But I'm glad they give a shit about their game to give it a proper end and Squeenix makes pretty awesome CGI.
That trailer is some HD shit
They should make a movie

The Japanese are the best at video game type movies/trailers. From the action plots right down to that godlike animation.
And so we wont see GoldenDargon posting for another 5 months unless its FF related, you massive fanboy. :v:
This is up there with the coolest fucking trailers I've ever seen.
Also for those who are curious about the music playing during the CGI:

So what exactly is the plot?, Bahamut kills everyone you know and love and the heroes get teleported back in time to prevent it from happening?

It's actually 5 years into the future.
I re-listened to the music is not bad, guess I'm not used anymore with this kind of music in trailers after hearing only dubstep and wierd rock mixes...
Square Enix should just make a movie already. It seemed like that's what they were going for with FFXIII.
Just give us KHIII.
If you're looking for KHIII, you might be interested in Versus XIII. Don't worry, it actually has nothing to do with FF XIII.

[sp]too bad square will never finish it because they're a bunch of assclowns[/sp]
So does this mean the big update is done or is this just an announcement trailer thing?
That would be a great way to shut down a MMORPG if it's too old and the developers don't want to support it any more. Have some canonical apocalypse event take place, give everyone permadeath and invite everyone to fight.
Would be a dignified end.

This is probably one of the fewest game series wich always had new and creative worlds. Though it looks a bit brownish.

I'm guessing this was their way to change up their theme from Ivalice medieval fantasy to match more of the cyberpunk/futuristic themes like in FFXIII
I'm not exactly a fan of the series but jesus that was some powerful stuff. I had tingles and feels, and I don't even know what the fuck is going on. Trailers don't give me feels. Even MOVIES rarely give me feels. I have to hand it to them, they sure know how to make a cinematic.
So what exactly is the plot?, Bahamut kills everyone you know and love and the heroes get teleported back in time to prevent it from happening?
I think the idea is that FFXIV was so shitty that he teleports them out of the game where Bahamut destroys everything, and into the new reboot. I'm not making that up.
Anyways, this is hands down one of the best and most powerful trailers I've ever seen, and I'm not even a Final Fantasy fan, although I would be if the series was actually like this.

Would suck for the people who get killed at the very beginning of it all.
[editline]14th November 2012[/editline]
But it would be pretty fucking great though.
They need to make another movie, I personally loved Advent Children.
It would be nice to see them make a movie. The advantage of them having the games though, is that they can stick much more plot and character development in, but it would be interesting to see them handle a movie that isn't Spirits Within.
Is this an addition to FF14? Does intend to revive it?
If anything made by squareenix wants to hold my attention it's going to have to show game-play. I've fallen for their shit before, never again.
At least is isn't Final Fantasy 13-12
Gonna be picking this up
I haven't touched MMOs for a while, so I hope to play with some FPers soon!
My older brother explained the trailer to me and tol me a lot of amazing backstory to this game, and that the battle shown was a representation of an in game event, which is fucking amazing. Definitely gonna sign up for the PS3 Beta/Alpha.

When they found out their game was shit, Square Enix announced FF XIV 2.0
The game is getting a complete revamp in term of certain mechanics and etc. Due to the massive chances, they kinda had to explain it lore wise.
Before that, in 1.0, 1-time only quests would pop up at specific dates, where most of it was about setting up and defending what makes those massive blue beams in the trailer. The game would also spawn more and more high-end monster at random, inappropriate areas, even in certain non-combat related cities. This was Square Enix's way to say "shit's going down".
The in-game story imply the arrival of great evil bahamut dragon (blablabla JRPG shit) and a typical grand disaster that would happen soon. That was obviously felt by the players as they got killed by monsters that were not supposed to be where they were.
To allow a proper transition between 1.0 and 2.0, the decided to shut down every single servers and release that trailer right after. As you can see in the trailer, the whole setup from those event quests is a failure. Seeing that Bahamut is not contained and their impending doom is approaching, the mage decides to teleport the heroes (which represents all players) back in time in hope they can change things up.
So everything starts over. Square can redo the story and areas, no characters are wiped and the lore is still solid. It's a huge gamble considering if 2.0 is a failure it's nothing but a waste of money.
holy shit that cgi
