I got it. A rather simple and unimaginative Muslim, angry about some things (probably animals) spray-painted "ISLAM" on the memorial, ditching the can of spraypaint. Then, an EDL guy comes along, sees the graffiti and becomes so dismayed by it, he scribbles out the words using the discarded spraypaint can.
