The Sensible B.C. campaign had 90 days to collect signatures from 10 per cent of the registered voters in every single one of B.C.'s 85 ridings. That's 400,000 signatures, but the group says they will most likely fall short with only about 220,000 signatures. Since Sept. 9, campaign director Dana Larsen travelled the province in his vintage bus to collect signatures from registered voters in each of the province's ridings. Larsen says despite his polling that suggested seven out of 10 British Columbians support legalizing pot, his team was not able to collect enough signatures to meet Monday's deadline. Larsen had hoped to trigger a provincial referendum on a draft bill, entitled the Sensible Policing Act, which would amend the Police Act to prohibit the use of provincial police resources to enforce simple possession-and-use laws for adults. "We're definitely going to do this again," Larsen told CBC News.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/b-c-pot-petition-fails-to-get-enough-signatures-1.2455465
a referendum to limit police enforcement of marijuana laws in B.C.
They already don't though?
They already don't though?
Are you asking this or stating this?
Are you asking this or stating this?
question marks indicate a question last I checked
I know it's an ok cause but I find it kind of weird how a group of people would organize and make a big campaign for something with such low priority as Cannabis
Are you asking this or stating this?
A little of both. It's a mixed bargain. The Police don't really give a shit about it.
unfortunately this probably isn't due to a lack of public support, but a lack of proper organization and participation by the group.
unfortunately this probably isn't due to a lack of public support, but a lack of proper organization and participation by the group.
It's a fairly tricky thing to organize:
signatures from 10 per cent of the registered voters in every single one of B.C.'s 85 ridings
It depresses me that we successfully got enough signatures to overturn a tax change, but barely half the needed signatures to decriminalize weed and formalize the informal, arbitrary discretion cops currently employ with basic weed possession (which, as it stands, is an avenue for discriminatory uneven application of the law).
Am I the only one who finds it bullshit that you need 400,000 signatures to make anything happen? Shouldn't 220,000 be plenty enough to determine that alot of people want this?
I didn't hear about this or I would of signed. I think next time they'll be more prepared. This is fairly important to me as I feel pot needs to be regulated.. Growers are using all kinds of different growth enhancers that do who knows what to people in the long run. This wouldn't be such a big deal if smoking pot wasn't as common for youth as drinking a beer.

They were prolly too stoned to find the vote
I heard that British Columbia weed is the best weed, is this actually true?
They asked me to sign it without explaining what it was for. The only reason they offered me was "because its a good idea".
I heard that British Columbia weed is the best weed, is this actually true?
I dunno about now, but it was once traded on par with cocaine in Columbia because it was that good. It's still held onto the reputation at least.
That's 1/20 the population of BC, personally I don't think that's a lot, and it seems the petition's signature requirement is at 1/10.
Not just 10% in bulk, 10% of each of BC's ridings , so even if 80% of the population of Vancouver signed it, if up in Campbell River they're just like "no" and rally the community to oppose the matter and only like 6% sign? Failed. BC's referendum power doesn't get used much.

would have voted if i had known this was a thing that existed
