Based on the US average, only Mississippi comes out poorer than the UK until Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) is added into the equation. When spending power is taken into account, based on how much can be bought with $100 in the UK and each US state, Britain’s PPP adjusted GDP per capita falls to last place in the ranking.
Why the fuck would Britain join the US. Is this even an idea people hold?
Scotland should declare independence and join the US so that the US has a colony on the Isles.
Why the fuck would Britain join the US. Is this even an idea people hold?
THat's not the point of the article. The point of the article is just some stuff about how the UK compares to US states.
Did you know if Uganda joined the USA it'd be the poorest state? Did you know if x joined y it'd be the z state?
-snip ninja'd-
THat's not the point of the article. The point of the article is just some stuff about how the UK compares to US states.
This is just a typical "We're better than you still!" article but can you even imagine if somehow we just kind of...airlifted Britain over and plonked it down on the east coast somewhere? New Jerseyians and British, battle of the most unintelligible accents.
In terms of actual effect on a common person, this is meaningless. It's just another attempt by RT to spin the facts in a way that portrays western countries as dystopias. I remember one RT reporter saying she was told to come up with a story casting Germany as the same kind of dystopia despite having the strongest economy in Europe.
FFS You can't value a country's quality of living by looking at GDP per capita. That's fucking bullshit, it's like saying that all the products made AND consumed inside the country belong equally to everyone. 0/10. Wouldn't buy. GTFO.
Poorest state, best healthcare. Come at us.
Poorest state, best healthcare. Come at us.
can we switch pls totally worth ittttt
Actually the UK would be the 18th poorest state when it comes to GDP per capita, below Georgia and Above Ohio at $37,307
This article is complete garbage. All they've done is look at GDP and PPP numbers and said "HAHA UK IS DED". One of the most glaring omissions of GDP/PPP is access to social services. In the UK, you won't lose your house over a life-saving operation, for example. This is functionally equivalent to saying "a loaf of bread in Japan costs $20 USD? lol Japan is poor". Actual quality of life indexes include this information and are much more useful as a gauge of how well a society is doing in general. They are still open to interpretation but at least some factors get accounted for. Another lovely bit of "journalism" from RT.
We need more states! 50 is ok, but I want more, more, more! Canada? You've been avoiding us for too long! UK? More like US! Mexico? We'll own all the cartels! Free cocaine for everyone!
I thought posting articles from RT was bannable? Or just forbidden?
I thought posting articles from RT was bannable? Or just forbidden?
frowned upon but not banned outright

And yet everything here costs more than it does in the US

In all seriousness though, the power and wealth of US companies is unimaginable. This isn't surprising at all.
i guess this is why every city in the uk looks like detroit [sp][joke][/joke][/sp]
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1420608&p=45811719#post45811719 Got it covered.
honestly id rather be poor in the uk than america, at least your govt would actually support you with medical care and your tax dollars actually do something
>yuropoors
Average UK income is higher than US (its about the same figure but GBP is stronger than USD), then again stuff costs more here, works out as UK income vs cost of living is slightly lower than the US. Mind, that's an average across the US so likely the UK would be higher than some individual states. Great time for a Brit to be in the US though, everything will seem very cheap, less so for Americans over here.
Actually, adding Mexico to the United States would fix sooo many immigration issues :v:
Then wouldn't the US have to deal with all the Cartels, poverty issues, economic, etc of Mexico? Granted then all food will be American food and the next step is the great states of Canadia.
the student is now the master
That picture is so sad, someone just give that man an umbrella. :(
